  • Had a 'self-pity' shop in Mr A yesterday, but it wasn't too bad as they were mostly whoopsies and deals. Spent £13.41 which has been updated on my sig.
They had some new tubs of ice cream on a deal for £1 each or 4 for £3. They looked just like the really expensive Ben & Jerry sort with similar flavours (cookies & Cream/Choc fudge etc) but they aren't that great tbh - bit too fluffy and sparse on the gooey bits and lumps! They were cheap - but they tasted it. That'll teach me!

Been to Asda this morning to stock up on the mullerlights before the offer goes off.

Hoping to just about come in on target this month. I have six days left so it should be ok.

Next month we are back to three adults in the house as DD2 has moved back in this week. Will have to have a careful look at the budjet cos she will still be staying over at friends a few times a week so will probably take packing up. She works in a nightclub part time, so has really odd hours and getting home is a problem. ( I got up at 4am today to pick her up but can't do that during the week) Her friends live nearer the city centre and keep od hours too :D

Didn't do too badly yesterday, spent £6.12 on 'groceries' including mayonnaise, washing up liquid, some salad. Also got a hot chilli and garlic grinder I saw in Iceland. I can reuse the grinder afterwards so will have to think of something interesting to put in it.

We went to the cash and carry and I got the following: - 12 cartons of tropical juice, box of 48 packets of crisps, a massive bottle of chilli sauce (I paid what i'd usually pay for 6th of the bottle in supermarkets!) Got some creamed coconut and also a huge (2.5kg) tin of chopped tomatoes and chickpeas!

I'm going to wait until i've used some of my freezer contents before using the tins, but will make up loads of pasta sauce etc and lots of falafel. I'm off to look for other chickpea recipes now :p I've included the chilli sauce and coconut in my total, but the rest will be used over many months, so won't be counting those.

Did fairly well at Tesco's as spent £15.31. Kicking myself slightly as bought loose carrots and parsnips which cost £1.20 when could have bought one of their special bags which had these plus an onion and small swede for £1. Nevermind will remember that in the future.
Mushroom soup is in slow cooker and going to make tomato and peppers sauce for pasta next which I'll put into the freezer. In the oven will be banana bread and roast chicken. Hope can last the week without buying anything else.

  • You lot have really inspired me! I am new to these boards but have read through most of this thread now, I don't know how much I spend on food each month but it will be more than I should be spending. I live alone so there is no excuse, I am only cooking for myself

I will definitely be taking part in this challenge. I have sorted out my kitchen this morning and made a list of everything I need to use soon. I do have enough to feed myself for at least a week so I am going to try and get through that, then work out how much it is that I am spending and try to cut down from there

There have been some really great idea's on this thread

Oh s**t. Have completely messed up this month.
    Spent over £200, out of a budget of £100. Did 5 entertainment shops,and don't actually know what i bought.:eek::o:eek:
Did manage to stock up on Princes apple juice (back at 50p in asda), and a few other staples, but really, really, REALLY cross with myself. I'm going to have to stop this if i've got any chance of getting through maternity leave without a credit card!!

As it's just me tonight (dd and ds are at their dad's), i'm going to have a veggie stir fry - i bought the smartprice stirfry mix for 50p, that will do me at least twice, and i'll have it with a chow mein sauce and noodles. Looking forward to that, although that doesn't really mean anything at the moment. I really fancied a fish finger sandwich for lunch, but after eating it, felt sick! I hate pregnancy hormones! The worst thing that's happened this time round is that i had some chocolate cake at work and it tasted of fish! (I powered through and ate it anyway!!)

Anyway, sorry for the rant. I'm bowing out ungracefully for this month, and i'll try MUCH harder next month (which starts on tuesday for me).

Hope you've all managed to do better than me!

I've spent another £4.50 mainly because i was MASSIVELY hungover yesterday so went for a potter around Tesco to find something that didn't make me want to throw up.

Needless to say £4.50 later i managed to find something

So that's it NO more spending for me. Fortunately, i'm away with work a week today until the 1st April. Should definately get from now until next week without needing to buy anything except perhaps a loaf of bread!

    Off to update signature!

    Hello folks

Had to update signature as yesterday in town I went into my local poundstore where they sell my favourite body cream and bought a pot - I didn't actually need it but they don't always have it in stock so I tend to buy one when I see it. So I have £31 to last till 31st March - hm...

Cooked the last beef joint in the freezer for lunch, with roasties and a couple of yorkies that I had made on a previous occasion and frozen - I just put them straight from the freezer into a hot oven for 10 mins - sorted! Also cooked some leeks which were practically walking out of the fridge! Stripped them and sliced them and cooked for a couple of mins in the microwave then made some white sauce and topped with a bit of grated cheese and whacked it in the said hot oven for 15 mins - yum yum! Half of rest of the beef will be sliced for tomorrow and reheated in gravy with some creamy mash and the other half will make a shepherd's pie- six meals from a tiny joint!

We took advantage of the sunshine here and did some clearing up in the garden and garage followed by a trip to the tip. I also cleaned the garage doors - white paint tends to go greenish over the winter especially if the up and over door is left up and open! I used the fabulous Stardrops and it worked a treat. My back is killing me now though!

Good luck everyone - nearly there. Catch up with you all later.

    love Moniker
