'Should Hilary buy Chelsea's fags for her?' Money Moral Dilemma

I grew up around smokers and I hated it.
If you want an arguement I say: Allow children when they are 18 to sue there parents for reducing there life quality.
In regard to this situation: Any money got for the child should be spent on the childs welfare, not the parents easy living requirements (sky, broadband, new phone etc...) - so stop buying yourself all these good things and actually buy the child the food that is actually the best for them, none of this cheap crappy food that has NOTHING good in it. How many parents do you see walking around with the latest mobile phone, or latest hair style but never see a piece of fruit in there house?!
A childs lungs cannot deal with the tar intake like an adults do: why? Its simple the surface area is alot smaller in the childs, in effect your are choking your child. Reducing there oxygen flow which in turn increases highly there chances of getting cancer and you slow there mental growth. New cells need oxygen and you are starving the child of this. And we all know you grow the most when your a child.
So you want the best for your child? If you smoke around your child Im sorry but give the child to someone else who actually will put there needs first. But its my child you say?! Well look after it! There is no excuse for smoking infront of a child. NONE!
I personally think there should be smoke detectors linked to the local authorities in all residences that children reside. With a heavy fine each time cigarette smoke is detected. But more so this fine should come from the parents pocket not the money for the child.
In regard to the money for the child should be given to the child - There should be a council set up to monitor that this is the case. For every £100 given for a child, there should be £100 worth of receipts covering this. Too many people do I know that have a child so they can live off the child benefits and have an easy life for themselves.
Yes the parent/parents should be given money for the child and yes if you dont work you should get money yourself. But these two for a long time have been in a single unit payment. Now I think its time these two should be split and evidence for the money going to the child should be supplied.
.... Ok you may think this went further than the question - but did it really?! There is no one correct answer and it does raise alot of issues. I merely have detailed my answer.0 -

And why restrict it to just the residences they live in? After all, it's possible for children to visit houses that don't match your criteria (grandparents/aunts&uncles etc.) So all houses should be fitted with cigarette detectors and cameras. Even the houses of those who don't have kids and aren't going to have any visiting. Because you never know..

Haha I like your thinkingBut no im not talking that extreme - going to someone else's house you can leave. Camera's are not required - the people should be fined for allowing others to smoke around there kids also.
I agree though it can open a very dangerous can of worms - but what is worse? A facebook profile or a cigeratte smoke detector? Some say a facebook profile is a virtual tattoo.
What about the idea of: A license to smoke? A lincense to drink?
Defaulty given at the age of 18. Even added on to your passport or driving license as a symbol. Any crime of either nature will bring your license in to question.
Edit: Or even give people who already smoke a license and deny everyone the possibility to purchase cigerattes - lets kick this harmful habit in the teeth hard.0 -
No I wouldn't because I do not agree with adults smoking around their children.
I buy cigarettes everytime I travel and i'm a non smoker!!! I then sell them for £30 when I have only paid £17.50 for them. Got to make some extra money some how!!! I dont get overtime pay at me day job ;-)0 -
How could Hilary make Chelsea realise she really doesn't approve of her smoking in front of Bill if she buys her the means of doing so as a present?
I think saying she, Hilary, won't buy the cigarettes is treating both of them (Hilary and Chelsea) as adults. To buy them but try to manipulate how Chelsea would smoke them is to infantilise Chelsea.
How would you explain to Bill (when he's wheezy, and will shortly, if my experience is typical, start to loath Chelsea's smoking) that you thought it would be good to save his mum some money by buying her fags as a present. Hilary should buy Bill a present instead and cut out the carginogenic step in the middle. Some nice clothes for Bill would help Chelsea's budget and leave Hilary's conscience intact.
(I'm very glad I never started smoking. But sometimes I wish I did and then I could stop - just think how much extra money I'd then have every week....)0 -
So absolutely not.0

The more fags Chelsea gets, the sooner she'll croak from lung cancer. So go ahead. However the problem is that the others suffer too.
Answer: Get the best of both worlds by putting up a small smokers' shelter outside. That way, if the lung cancer doesn't get her, the pneumonia will.0 -
If a child of mine ever takes up smoking they will be disowned.
Would you smuggle morphine for a heroin addict?Married Ajichombo on 17th April 2010 :j0 -
I'm another who feels so strongly that I could not buy cigarettes, yet admit that as a teatotaller I will still gift alcohol (cautiously!)
I also agree with the earlier comment that having the bulk pack might cause Chelsea to increase her smoking. If I take food to work I always eat earlier and eat more than if I have to go out and buy it!0
