Don't care what anyone says, smoking around your child makes you a bad parent.
  • Since I would not consider putting a gun into my daughter's hand because it is cheaper than her buying one why would I do the equivalent - buy her cigarettes that can kill her?

No - I wouldn't buy them. Why would I help her to harm her child's health and feed her own unhealthy addiction.

  • No it's not.
Yes it is illegal, as they're not for her own consumption.
I know - let's make it illegal to smoke if you're a parent. That'll make everyone happy won't it?
I think a vast number of people, myself included, would agree with that suggestion.
Are you up to date with your Daily Mail list of (other) things that cause cancer[tm]? Do you no longer buy alcohol? Chocolate? Coffee? Lightbulbs? Have you stopped using the internet? Deodorants? Thought not.
So your argument is that because the Daily Mail accuses lots of things of causing cancer, therefore smoking somehow doesn't? I think this has been proven repeatedly, and far beyond the Daily Mail's standards of investigation.

My personal view is that Hilary should not facilitate Chelsea's smoking, since it conflicts with her moral views. If Chelsea had asked her to bring back some hardcore pornography, samurai swords and air rifles for her to expose her 5-year-old son to, would that be any different?

IIRC you can only import tobacco for your own personal consumption. So, selfish Chelsea's smoking habits aside, it would be illegal for Hilary to bring them back for her. A simple but genuine reason, hopefully preventing yet another argument on presumably a well-rehearsed theme.

agree - and not just from a health point of view, you can smell the kids that come from a smoking household at school and it just ain't nice
  • NO don't encourage a bad habit, she will probably smoke more as they are cheaper anyway, why would you put someones life in danger, it is ludicrous to think that you are doing someone a good turn by getting them drugs just because they are a bit cheaper.

  • Been here in real life. Even as an anti-smoker, I accepted my friend was going to buy the 'orrible weed at whatever price. So I bought them and saved my friend some money.

Looks like this is one argument that will always be going strong!

As one of the few non-smoker's among my friend's, I know they don't ask me because they know my views and they repect that their choices are different from my choices. I wouldn't buy them cigarettes.

However, I do work as a carer for a smoker and do buy cigarettes for that person as they physically cannot get to the shops themselves. I guess that would make me a hypocrite. But even he wouldn't ask me to buy cigarettes if from abroad.

I do drink though, so I probably would buy some-one alcohol. Though it could be argued that that is just as bad!
