You have never been fined in 32 years and - you still haven't been fined. What you have from ParkingEye is simply a speculative invoice. Its not a parking ticket and nor is it a fine as no private company (nor individual) has the right or authority to fine anyone - whatever they may say. The other thing you can be sure about is that you will not be going to court either. Just think about it.
PE and other companies - there are quite a few of them - continue to be able to make their money because they set out to frighten people into paying their invoice in exactly the same way as they have frightened you. By making people think it is official and failure to pay will see you taken to court, having a damaged credit file, bailiffs, debt collectors and attachment of earnings orders. Now, ask you self the question: Why do they have to do all of that? The answer? It is because if they simply sent you an invoice you'd throw it in the bin and they know that so they simply dress up their invoice tomake it look like a real ticket.
Steel yourselves. Join the thousands of people who have simply ignored these people and all their threatening letters and debt collectors. Remember that a debt colector has no more right than you or I to make anyone pay money - especially if no money is owed in the first place. They'd prefer you think that they hold your financial future in their hands when exactly the reverse is true - they can only make their money if you pay up.
There is plenty of advice on here and if you really need any further convincing then watch this video snippet from BBC's Watchdog. Their solicitor gives very specific advice as to how to deal with private parking company tickets. My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -
Complain to the landowner about the harassment suffered at the hands of an agent acting on their behalf.
(In other completely non-Parking Spy related news, it appears that my local NHS hospital believes it can issue penalties for breaking one of it's many rules)0 -
Is it the same for Scotland? Got a letter from them last week while we were on holiday and the reminder yesterday. There is a 3 hour limit in our local co-op car park and I was 10 minutes late in leaving. I have ignored the letters so far. Can I go on ignoring them?0
-
In Scotland or NI you can still ignore the whole scam - but the advice in England/Wales has changed - so stop reading this ancient thread and get reading the sticky threads on page one from this year instead!!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Its even better in Scotland you have proper Judges! More reason why they wouldn't go near a court.0 -
The letters aren't even addressed to me, as the car is in my husband's name, but it was me that was driving at the time. The parking limt and charges signs are cleary visible. Does that make any difference? My husband is more worried about it than me.0
