Ha! Mortal you`ve made my mind up for me
my sweetcorn will be repotted this weekend and i shall put it in the greenhouse, later i`ll put it in the garden and cover it with 2 litre pop bottles that i`ve been saving to use as mini cloches.
In a couple of weeks i`m hoping to have the peppers and toms in the greenhouse as its getting a bit daft upstairs in the spare room now
When i`ve moved everything into the greenhouse i can plant up some courgettes and some other bits and bobs as i`ll have some space.
I grew chard last year for the first time and was very impressed with how it lasted and hardly needed any looking after, just watering every so often, i`ll be putting some in the front garden again this year, it was so colourful that i didn`t mind not having flowering plants in the flowerbed.
My onions have been outside for a few weeks and most of them are poking through with lovely green shoots, they are in pots and atm its just the strawberries that are keeping them company.

Potatoes are starting to show, the tomatoes and cucumber seedlings are thriving in the conservatory, no sign of the asparagus spears in the garden yet, although last year's new ones (still in greenhouse) are shooting up like mad. Lettuce and radish iplanted n toilet roll inners are starting to show, as are the peas and beans (indoors), but no sign of the broccoli, carrots or spring onions yet (outdoors).
Planted the onions and garlic lautumn ast year (uncharacteristically organised for me) sol hoping for a good harvest mid/late summer.0 -
Hi Gang
I'm in North Yorkshire.
I've got garlic & strawberries outside on my decking.
I'm hardening the Feltham First peas at the moment so the are coming in on a night time & the potatoes are chitting but i daren't put them out yet after speaking to many locals who say to wait a couple more weeks.
On my South Facing windowsills i have Marmande Toms,Birdseye Thai chillis,Jalepenos & Sweet peppers all looking great so far!, everything will be grown in pots.
Keep wanting to start more but we are thinking of booking a holiday soon so a bit dubious at the moment plus we have family coming to stay next week so don't want the house covered in pots.
Think i will start with some flowers/plants soon, we are getting the front (that is now graveled) concreted (would like a garden but OH says no!) so starting to think about what to put in the many pots i plan to have on it (to get my own back for not been allowed a garden!).
Looking really forward to my first year of growing!:)0 -
Right i`ve bitten the bullet and put all the chillies, corn etc into the unheated greenhouse today. The only things left inside are some flowers which are tiny and 8 tomato plants.
They are stood inside polystyrene boxes and i`ve covered them for the night with fleece so fingers crossed.
They should be warm enough really as the salad is growing well in there despite the low night time temperatures, has anyone else put things out into a greenhouse recently?

I think Spring has finally arrived in West Yorkshire, though yesterday we had a sneaky nithering wind. My potatoes got planted in tubs last weekend after they had been chitting away on the windowledge upstairs. I sowed some mini salad leaves in troughs and they are peeping through, as are the beetroot seeds I sowed at the same time weeks ago. Still no sign of life with the carrots, nor the rhubarb I planted but I live in hope! I'm still a bit of a hit and miss veg grower as I was a late starter! Hope you all have bumper crops!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

My potatoes are just putting the tips of their leaves through and the salad by the back door under a sheet of glass is comingon well. This weekend I will be sowing some carrot, parsnip, courgette and purple french bean seed in the unheated greenhouse. I can't wait any longer!0

Well the toms and peppers are all now back inside as the night time temps have droped a bit too low for me to be confident.
Both varieties of tom are looking a bit poorly, even the ones which didn`t go into the green house. Think i`ve overwatered them
The early spuds are now a foot tall and need the final earthing up so thats a job for tomorrow.
Fingers crossed for warmer weather at night soon, think it will be the end of the month though looking at the forecast.
The corn seems to be doing well though so i`ve left that in the greenhouse.

hello I'm from south yorkshire, I have everything in my mini green house now - toms, leeks , onions, lettuce, sweetcorn , peas, runner beans, beetroot, bell pepper
sweet peas are sown in pots in the garden
beds are dug over and mulched
potatoes are ready to plant out now too
I am new to this but I LOVE it :j0 -
The sweetcorn is now outside :j
I planted all 9 plants out in a border in the back garden yesterday so fingers crossed. The size of the plants varied massively from just over and inch to six inches tall. All of them have 2l plastic pop bottles over them as a cloche so when we get the frost they should be ok. We are forecast some really cold nights/early mornings towards the end of this month.
Is there anyone else on here who uses the pop bottles? I can never decide whether or not to keep the lids on, they are off atm but might pop em back on at night when its forecast to be really cold.

Hi Yorkshireites

i`ve repotted all my toms and chillies today as they were not doing too well.
Don`t look too bad atm but time will tell. 6 toms are in the greenhouse and the rest have gone back upstairs for now. The 6 in the greenhose are a kinda test
I`ve finished making my 2 self watering containers today and they now have peas in them :j they are in the greenhouse too and the carrots are also poking their noses through in some places.
The broad beans and runner beans are a couple of inches tall already so i`m hoping that it won`t be too long before they can go out. My spring onions are like tiny straggly pieces of cotton but the radishes and winter lettuce are great, the lettuce is almost ready to start cutting :j
There are 7 pots of early potatoes which have now been earthed up as far as they can go so overall i`m really pleased, the only downside is that my back is killing me
Hope that this nice weather is here to stay, can`t check my fav weather site as its down atm but will try again later. Thats all for a while as back at work tomorrow but hopefully over the next few days i can put the guttering up around the shed and connect up my water butt properly.
Happy gardening folks.
