I don't have a greenhouse and because we have the heating off our house is freezing during the day so I can't grow anything on window sills yet. I was wondering what others in the area are doing at the moment in prep for the growing season?
Wrap up warm:) and go into your garden to see if bulbs are appearing. Cut down any herbaceous plants (ie old dead tops) Indoors you could sow annual
seeds/culinary herbs etc.0 -

I`ve started off chillies, bell peppers and tomatoes in jars on damp kitchen paper in the airing cupboard. As they germinate i`m planting them in tiny pots of compost and these go into one of those big polystyrene boxes minus the lid. I stand them in the front bedroom on top of a low unit beneath the window and so far so good :j
Yesterday i planted some sweetcorn seeds two to a small pot and they are now in the poly box too. Think i`ll be looking through my seeds to see what i can do next. I`m desperate to plant carrots as last year i grew some in pots and they were so good that i can`t wait for some more, i can never remember when i planted things the year before and usually end up shoving things in the ground to see what happens and so far most things have been ok.
I`m trying early spuds for the first time this year and i`ve put them in pots in the unheated greenhouse, not sure how they will fare though.
Wish it would warm up, i spent some time out there yesterday and nearly froze to death :rotfl:the wind is horribly cold. Come on spring!

Hi all Yorkshire neighbours :-)
We have no garden at all but we do have an allotment which we started from scratch late last year. We have spent the last month collecting wood and bricks from Freecycle/friends and continuing to build beds and put some kind of structure onto the land. I planted out some onion sets this week. Might prove too early but I caved in to the pestering of my 2 year old son who was itching to plant them.
I've got lots of seeds on windowsills at home...tomatoes, various herbs, sunflowers, nasturtiums, and just today I potted up some courgette seeds. Am doing lots of extras for a plant stall at our school's may day fete so need to get a wriggle on with that as I only have 6 weeks to grow things!
Am very excited about the onset of spring. Its been a little warmer here in Mytholmroyd recently and the sun has been shining...not today I might add.....rainy and the stove is on...brrr.Tess x

Another Tyke here. It feels like spring has sprung today so I have set some seeds going in my unheated mini greenhouse - sea holly and everlasting sweet peas. I also have garlic and shallots in troughs in the sun. I will sow some parsley and salad onions tomorrow, also in troughs. The sweet peas I sowed indoors are very leggy so I may have to repot them.0

Twas a glorious morning in West Yorks even got the lawn cut....Noticed the garlic is showing green shoots, I'm tempted to put out my early potatoes tomorrow."The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

Hi another one in west Yorkshire.
yesterday I finally cleared all the dead stems from the Perenniels, that I should have done last Autumn.
I shredded loads of branches that had been left at the bottom of the garden.
Today looks lovely, so I hope to move some overcrowded Perenniels and spread some compost.:rotfl:Member of the £2 savers club.£320
