Small improvements to the lists. Nearly done Wednesday. Just need to vac the floor. Still trying to keep hall floor mud free. Went for a long walk/bike ride in the forest today. BBC online weather said it wouldn't rain until this evening. WRONG! All 5 of us got totally soaked. DS3 fell off his bike and lay crying in a puddle. Washing machine is groaning under the strain of sodden muddy clothes. Went out for a meal for DB's birthday tonight. Terrible service and lukewarm food. DD2 fell asleep on my lap before we had the main course. Looking forward to a day at home tomorrow but must do Mr T shop.

Piggers - I have got a very small hair trimmer (it was from boots on offer when I brought Mum a shaver but not part of the shaver- it could be No7) only about £6 it is tiny and quiet - might he use something like that for now?

    WM on

    Good evening all

Could someone give me advice on pastry brushes, please, as I really dislike using and cleaning them. Last night at the supermarket I saw some very strange colourful versions, made of silicone, I think.
If anyone has used these, would you recommend them? They certainly look easier to clean.

    Thank you very much

Don't get the black and yellow ones from tesco.. they are rubbish and the bristles fall off.. I have the metal one with the black bristles..

Pigpen I am not looking forward to that bit, but it's the 'other' hair he's trying to pull out, he knows other people have it he just doesn't want it, hence the eyes watering. I do know a boy who uses hair removal cream on his face, he just can't cope with the shaving thing, his Mam is looking into laser removal for him as he just can't cope with it. Most boys I've come across for facial hair use disposables, more often than not someone does it for them.

He won't let me do it for him.. I tried.. well I offered I thought sitting on him was taking it a bit far considering he is taller than me now lol I knew which hair you meant.. and that hair is itchy.. and the growth of the scrotum makes things uncomfy and hot down there too adding to itchiness and then the darn thing gets a life of its own!! Poor DS2 thought it was going to explode or fall off... Anyway, it didn't.

Does anyone have a slightly older boy that could explain how they cope with it? Another boy with similar issues obviously..

DS2 hates his underarm hair most.. though bizarrrely his leg hair is fine.. odd child!

I have recently explain puberty to DS3 and freaked him out and DD3 as she has breast buds and is now checking for boobs twice a day now!! She wasn't impressed with the idea of hairy places but she has always wanted boobs.. she had mine until she was nearly 3 lol

Thank you, that is really lovely of you.

My dad lives in West Sussex (HH) so i will be staying with him - called him tonight and he is more than willing (he and mum were divorced about 30 years ago; both have new husband/wife).

Spoke to Doctor and the urgency is not as bad as i thought. She is awake and sitting up and talking. Apparently they just needed her in ICU because the equipment there is easier to get at; they are not expecting her to get worse just yet (hopefully not at all), so i can drive down in a leisurely way tomorrow afternoon.

Thanks for all the thoughts everyone; you are all stars.

  • Have just caught up with the thread. No more flying done here as we have had a busy day and my head has 'gone'!!

Ishtar - If I can be of any help please let me know - I was diagnosed with Cervical Cancer New Years Eve 2008 (Just over a year ago) and following treatment and a few wobbles, am in remission. If I can support or explain or just generally help, I would be happy to. (((hugs))) I know this is probably of no consolation but at least whatever it is has been found and treatment can commence - giving her a fighting chance and hopefully a full cure. Untreated and undiagnosed it could have been a life sentence. Having said that, I know how frightened and alone I felt, and you have my thoughts and prayers as you face Monday xxx

Haven't got to bed yet :D can you tell. Pigpen I am thinking about what you just said and wondering if there is someone. I might have a word with a few of the Mum's from our support group, it's finding someone he would talk to would be tricky. I am wondering if an online conversation would help, I've dropped Donna Williams a message, she's an adult on the spectrum (you've probably heard of her books) who I am sure runs an adult support group....well is part of. I think he's learned not to pull now, he's scared stiff of hair shavers/clippers/scissors so hoping the fear will keep him off them. Oh if only they didn't have to grow up!

Reason I am still up is the boys, well not all their fault some moron decided to let off fireworks at about 10.30pm. DP had left the bedroom window open so they heard them and started screaming, now DS1s scared they will go off again and won't go to bed.

Ruth, safe journey vibes for you.
Ishtar thinking of you both x

Think I might give up and put DS1 in bed with me, DP can sleep on the sofa if necessary.
One day I might be more organised...........

Thankyou so much...and also to Toots and DustyKitten. I am so pleased to hear you are in remission. What a truly terrifying time it must have been for you. You're right, she went as soon as she realised what was happening (thought it was piles at first...sorry if tmi)

She's had a thickening of the uterine lining which has caused her to bleed. They don't know what's caused the thickening, but they have done an ultrasound which ruled out fibroids and have taken several biopsies. It's the results of these that she is awaiting.

The thing is, her GP gave some reasons for the problem, most of which have now been discounted - infections, fibroids, an erosion, etc. As each one is crossed off it gets closer to the more scary explanation. She survived a near fatal brain haemorrhage 18 years ago and she's still got plenty of fight in her. Not ready for her to go just yet (are you ever?), and I know she isn't ready to go either.

Thanks again, guys. At least on Monday we will know what we're up against.
