Foundation for pale skinned redhead

Hi, I don't have much experience with make up, I cleanse and moisturise daily and very occasionally wear mascara and concealer.

I'm getting to the point where I want to even my skin tone out a bit (I look a bit washed out and saggy) but the foundation I've tried (a Max Factor one in creamy ivory) isn't light enough. Can any pale people recommend something that won't make me look orange? I am not sure whether I would be better off with tinted moisturiser rather than foundation?

Thanks

Try a mineral powder instead, I'm a big fan of MAC Studiofix. It comes with a foam pad but I prefer to apply lightly with a brush, no foundation required (even though my skin is far from flawless). Great range of shades too, you'll look like you only better.

I'm very fair (although blonde, not red haired) and I recently started using M&S Colour Adapt foundation. It's not at all orange-y and best of all is only £3.50.

Hi there, isnt it so difficult in finding one!

Its taken me ages to find one the shade as close as I can get. As I am lily white all over and am a red head born, but as I got older my hairs got a lot darker. I have freckles and combination skin. So I get a few spots on my face and have become dependant on foundation now.

The foundation I now used is Clarins 01 linen truley matte foundation. You can only purchase it online, the shade is not available in the shops which is pants! Its pricey with pnp, come out at £26. But it lasts all year and more.

I have used Clinique's superfit in bare, thats a lovely foundation but had to change as too dark.

Used maxfactor pale long lasting finish one, thats too dark.

Used lilli lo lo mineral stuff ( I dont get on at all with mineral stuff, you have to have perfect spot free skin to use it imo)

Tried out all the lightest shades on the following foundations (got testers from them at debenhams) dior, benefit, elizabeth arden, lancome and none of them were pale enough for me.

Had a bottle of mac's studio I think it was fix, they do light shades. I found it clogged on to my skin too much, didnt blend, even though it was a good shade. It didnt do anything for my face, if you get me.

I also demand from my foundation that its long wearing, doesnt change colour, blends well, stays fresh all day and makes me look good.

Thank you everyone, I am making a list of things to try. I hadn't thought to go round a department store getting samples, that's a great idea, thanks Vikki. I did wonder whether to get someone on a makeup counter to make me up but they are all made up to the eyebrows and I am worried they'd slap it on with a trowel. Vfm4mepls - looking like me but better is exactly what I want.

Yea some of them were a bit reluctant to give a sample, and dior didn't have the lady there that worked for them, so the Clinique girl filled up a pot of it for me. But I managed to get them all. Thank god too as most of them were not good for a number of reasons, and it saved me loads more money buying them to find out no good.

Thats the thing being so pale, you see a lovely new foundation come out, and I go and look at it, and its no good as its too dark.

Plus its so hard, well impossible to see if the shade is right for your skin colour in these shops as its all artificial light.

I have had to put some on my face and go outside in the natural day light (where the ones wouldnt give me a tester) as thats the best way I think in finding the right shade.

I really wish more of these cosmetic companies would make paler shades.

I don't think I am paper white, just a nice normal pale colour. I feel like I am abnormal with them not being able to accounter for me.

I am pretty chuffed with the clarins 01 linen one though. If I put too much on, in some lights you can see its a tad darker than my neck or face. But its the best one I have tried and the closest I can get. As I have come to realise nothing will truly match my natural skin colour.

Plus I watched a video on holly willoughby;s site, its sitll on there. Its the one with her make up artist doing her make up. And the make up artist said on there that she used about 5 or something like that different shades of foundation on here face. As you are a different colour all over, which makes sense. No way could I faff about with that so settled for my current one.

Plus she also said you need a winter/summer one. Well as I stay out of the sun, I will just keep with this one as I should be alright. Try and get an oil free one too, thats a must really. Most cheaper brands have the oil in them. And one with spf.

oh i'd also go to the counter and get them to slap it on you, can always take it off. I had a few done with benefit (didn't like their make up) and clnique (they did the best job on me, I have a lovely blusher long lasting in innocent peach, matches my colouring and skin colour perfect, with their long lasting think its called blushing nude or something lipstick) As the make up that I like and that I think suits me best is natural stuff, that looks very natural.

Oh also tried in the past the boots no7 stuff, it wasnt bad, it was a free sample though and I think I had the too darker one for me, so wasnt fair on it. Lovely smooth stuff though.

Don't normally post pics, but here is one of me to give you an idea of my colouring:

  • Hi

I'm fair skinned with red hair too and I have trouble with foundations too. I've just discovered Maybellines Dream matte mousse. I found a shade called champagne in Superdrug which I couldn't find in Boots and it really is light!

How pretty are you Vikki! I have skin about the same colour as you but I'm blonde with brown eyes which is quite an unusual combination. I didn't know about the linen colour. Did you get a sample of that at the counter or not?
I'm still looking for a foundation, although Virgin Vie's alabaster was pretty good but they've discontinued it grrr!
