I'm getting extremely concerned about the safety of my money in my ICICI account - following advice on a different thread on this site, I decided to put £11k into a Hi save account to withdraw in chunks as and when I need it whilst carrying out some work on my house. I made a transfer request early last week to move £2k back into my only linked account, to pay for building work I'm having done tomorrow. That transfer has failed for some reason and I now find myself in the horrible position of having to try to get an overdraft tomorrow to pay the builders. I have been e-mailing ICICI a number of times each day since Friday, asking them to close the account and return the funds to my linked account; I have had no reply. Their communication system is very poor; if you make a request, and it subsequently fails, there is no automatic message informing you of this. You have to check through their non-user friendly site to discover this for yourself. I tried calling the London office - the recorded message says that the number is no longer used. My wife and I are deeply concerned that our money is at risk.

I would advise anyone considering opening one of these accounts to be extremely cautious - perhaps move a small amount of money into, and back out of, the account; ensuring it works properly before committing a large amount of money.

There is another thread about this here. They seem to have been upgrading their systems of late. Looks like they haven't thought through the ramifications in true ICICI fashion. ;)

They answer very quickly and can look at the account for you and tell you what's happening.
They say it takes up to 24 hrs to action emails.

There internet transfer facility has been down for the last few days and still not working - suspect it's a knock on from their site "upgrade" last week.
  • I must admit I still have nagging doubts, and I have been gradually reducing my holding (we certainly don't want everyone removing their funds at once!!).

I am not sure what 'rating' I would give them, but it would certainly not be 100%.

    Hi Guys,

I am probably one of the few who jumped immediately on the opportunity of opening this high paying interest savings account last year. And to be honest I had some problems initially and took a while to credit my first deposit and also my first SO. But since then it has gone smoothly without any problems whatsoever. In fact my wife has also have an account with them and we moved money in and out regularly.

It is also true that at times it disappears on moneysupermarket.com lists on high paying interest savings account for it to appear the next day. I don't know what are they up to.

I have found them to be quite slow at opening my account. My initial application went quickly and they requested a cheque to open the account, which I posted the same day so they have had my cheque for well over a week now and its still not been cashed, let alone hit my ICICI account which I would guess would be 3 / 4 working days later :(

Maybe I am just to impatient. :o
  • I have avoided putting any serious money with these jokers for a while now. Recently I have been considering moving some funds in based on some good experiences of other people (even tho my last transfer out failed and took over 1 week in the end).

Think this recent spat of problems sounds the death knell for this account....A+L and that Icelandic operation are here to steal the thunder from ICIC's sails (not that they ever really had any) and I will be sailing with them very shortly.
  • I had a message today informaing me that they will take 3 days to let me know why my money wasn't moved last week; I have asked them to close my account. I think I'll put it somewhere more accessible with slightly less interest, but much greater peace of mind.
