I was 'a bit iffy' about the security too at first. What with just a '6 numbers' (so no letters and so no upper or lower case mixed letters and not 10 digits long)
But the only place your money can go when it goes out of your HiSAVE account is into your 'linked current account'.
Please correct me if I am wrong about this.
To take money out of a HiSAVE when it isn't yours, one would have to swap the existing linked account to a different one and then do it.
To swap the linked current account, one would have to send in a cheque from a current account of the same name and with the pertinent identification once again.
Once again, if I am wrong about this too, please correct me.0 -

I opened an account some months ago with £1.00 just in case.
It took a couple of weeks to open but went OK.
I then transferred £10.00 on line to make sure it went OK before transferring any large amounts.
It did take probably a week to do but I carried on and went to transfer some more.
I could not log in.
I phoned them and after many questions which I cannot complain about as they were just making sure it was me, they said they would send me a new password.
A week later a new password arrived. Well the letter arrived but no way could I read it, it was too faint.
I phoned again and went though the same questions to ensure it was me.
Again a week later a new password appeared but yes you guessed it, unreadable. again
I gave up and on 12 August wrote by letter and asked them to cancel the account and refund the £11.00.
Nothing heard until I got an e-mail to let me know of all the good things about using ICICI bank.
Not impressed I replied to the mail and got an e-mail back a few days later to say sorry I was not happy and how could they help?
I replied with a copy of my letter attached and asked them again to close the account.
Another e-mail a few days alter to say sorry but the letter seems to have gone astray and would I write again or send a scanned image of my letter.
This was getting boring!
I have now replied again with the same scanned imaged attached and I wait and see what happens this time.
All the time I have spoken to them they have been very polite and nice and apologised but there comes a time when I have to give up.
Not for me I afraid, keep my money in well known Building Societies.
Well done Martin super site keep it up.0 -

Now at last the account is closed and the £11 refunded.
Much too long to do anything and much to much hassle to be able to recommend it at all.0 -
How long did it take to receive your funds back to your nominated account?
I sent a letter to ICICI to close my HiSave account and transfer all funds back to my current account. Got letter next day stating account had now been closed. It has now been 10 working days and I have still not received my funds. Have sent numerous emails to ICICI customer services/relations and keep having similar reponse ... it should be there is a couple of days!!
Does anybody know where my money is??0 -
For me I sent the letter closing the account on 12 Aug 2006.
After quite a few emails I got the money back in my account just over 6 weeks later.
To be fair and honest ICICI said the letter got lost in the post but it still took nearly 4 weeks after I emailed a scanned copy of the letter. (Which I had to do twice as well).
Good luck I hope all goes well.
Still very polite people.0 -
Hi
I opened an account for myself a few months ago and all went quite well = no problems to report of.
In July I applied for an account for my brother - a totally different story. I send certified docs in twice and still they lost them... I got the robot email reply 'I at ICICI am very sorry please send in again please.' I gave up! and wont be attempting again.
... so i went along to Yorkshire Bank for my brother instead 5.1% p/a. Registered and sent £1 cheque with their reg. form - only to have it returned a few days later with note saying as much.. No! you dont send the cheque yet! - even though they asked for it. Was not able to get the docs certified by either a solicitor (as dont have one) or the Yorksh bank (as 50 miles away) so they said to send originals.
After only a couple of days, the docs were returned and the account all up and running - super I thought! and went to the computer to move some money. Hmmm no button to press for 'receive money into YB from current account'. Called them to advise that all decent banks have this - eg. ICICI and asked if could send cheque... NO you cant do that as its an INTERNET ACC. As bro's current account with Barclays doesnt have internet access yet (only a couple of in's & outs per month) I called on his behalf to see how long would take to get connected - approx 10 days or more. Well what can you say about that - 10 days to register to online banking. A little annoyed, I said to go ahead with it and inthe meantime would 'walk' to local branch 12 miles away to do my transactions.
Eventually I got to the bank and asked for a lump to be moved to York BS - that;ll be £20 please!... Naturally I thanked them and left... without paying the fee and moving the money to YB. Im still in the position where by unless I can get on internet banking via Barclays, or I accept the rip-off transfer fee, theres no other way to get my money moved.
Regards

As I am new to Internet Accounts, can someone explain to me why ICICI want me to set up a direct debit before I send them a cheque for my first deposit. I want to transfer money from my Bank as and when, not by a regular direct debit. Can someone explain please? This is my first message, although I have been following the site for some time.0
