  • Dark Angel - i got as far as you seem to be at, then cancelled out. Gues what I now have what appears to be a fully functional account with £10.00 + interest in it without actually having sent any money. That was about 18 months ago. im now thinking I will tell them I fancy putting £1000.00 in there but not actually sending it and see if they will add that to my account free and gratis just like the £10.00 they gave me. Well with there techniological ineptitude you never know!
  • Well im now at 7 emails telling me to send a cheque so maybe they are desperate for my custom. Is this a new ploy, keeping emailing you until they receive some money, thats definitely SPAM I can do without. I'm now wondering if i dont send the cheque will they simply not open the account.

    T

*EDIT* - make that nine emails now, ooops no thats ten...

*UPDATE 21/11/2006* - 19 emails now when i checked this morning. I have already told them to not both opening my account if they cannot even control the emails they send out.
  • I have an ICICI account DarkAngel - if you are unsure why not just send in £1 cheque?

I have also opened an IceSave account just in case...

  • Just adding my two bob by saying opening a joint account for my wife and I has proved an utter nightmare and abject waste of time.

Like other users here, they have requested a certified copy of passports and utility bills to verify the identity of my wife - that's despite the fact that they accepted my details while both her and I have all-but itendical details and credit history etc.

Make sense of that one! And when I called up the helpline, the stupid operator had no idea, was useless in trying to explain to me the reason for this discrepency... eventually had to go through to a manager who was just as useless and ended up being told the people to ask (whoever makes the decision to request ID verification) weren't in at that time of the day - wish they'd just told me that at the start.

I thought perhaps I gave the wrong bank details or something, for my wife but they had no idea.... by the sounds of it, maybe they just pick out random customers to request certified ID docs from.??!!

anyway, I might go with the new icelandic bank instead.
  • I applied yesterday to open an ICICI account and since then I have received FIFTEEN emails all the same requesting my identity documents. This has put me off opening the account as it would seem they are not able to manage their computers! What are they going to do with my money?!?
  • Same as me then. Im now at 21 emails and counting. Exactly the same concerns as to what will happen with any money going in and out of the account. Just phoned them to tell them, as I had already emailed the customer team twice and had no response. I told them to not bother opening the account. They told me I have to write to them to get the account closed. As far as im concerned I havent even openned it. Could barely hear the person on the phone the line quality was so bad. Think i'll stick with an onshore account with A&L.

opened an account three weeks ago delay in doing so complained of loss of interest gave us credit of 15quid very good bank which at least admit they were slow and compensated us for it.
Before you point fingers, make sure your hands are clean !;)
  • and me too - I didn't even mention that in my above posting - I think I've received about 25 emails in the last 24-48 hours requesting that I send certified documents.

And I took the time to email them and request that they STOp.

Bloody infuriatingly useless bank.... very unhappy that I took the punt after reading about it in Martin's newsletter and the comment 'they seemed to have gotten much better'.

I rarely post but feel I have to add to discussion re: emails. I applied end of last week for a joint account and after just a few days received the em ail that my application was accepted. But I got 8 emails yesterday and a further 14 today - all the same asking for the opening deposit to be sent in. And because it's a joint account my wife also got the 8 emails yesterday and 14 today.

I haven't read too far back in the forum as yet but I'm beginning to have second thoughts altogether. It seems some others feel likewise.

Martin - if you're monitoring this can you give an opinion? I applied for the account on the basis of the main site write ups but if it's the nightmare that some people are suggesting perhaps it's not such a great idea?

    Edited later:
Having emailed ICICI yesterday to complain about multiple emails I received a reply email today apologising for the technical error, which surprised me somewhat having read others' experience that they simply don't reply. In a quandry now about whether to send off the opening deposit or not... think I'll just sned £1 and see what happens...

I think most customers will have received the apology email sometime this morning (like I did) and if you were able to successfully apply for a join account and they are now simply asking you for your deposit then you should be fine to go ahead... shame for some of us that we have to go through ridiculous problems of getting certified copies of passports/utility bills in order to satisfy ICICI (despite the fact that (in my experience) no other bank or financial organisation has ever requested certified documents to confirm identity).

oh well, time to try the icelandic bank that has the same 5.45 rate...
