At the moment from my 'treasure' hunt I am edging hankies with crochet, making a grannies flower garden crochet blanket, made two dozen cards with existing stash and sent them off today to be sold, and now the necklace. I have made three tiny flowers so far after a few false starts. It was so lovely sitting in the garden with a coffee under the blue sky listening to the birdsong making a prototype. A treasure in itself.
I'd like to post piccies but to date that is not one of my skills, but will try.
So much to do, so little time, but NEVER bored.

Sounds lovely - and a very appropriate signature you have Bella:)0 -
I have been afraid of pressure cookers and have only now decided that it might be a good idea to use one. I am determined not to go and buy a new one though, but to wait and see if one turns up in the charity shop or something. I did try Freecycle, but whenever anything is offered, they seem to have tons of people immediately pouncing on them, saying how desperately they need the item. It's rather sad, and in my cynical moments I wonder if these people just grab it and put it on Ebay to make a few pounds - not the spirit of Freecycle really. Anyway, do let us know what other treasure you dig up :j Thanks for the 'thank-you':D Don't forget you can subscribe to this thread and get updates when new posts are made. Thanks budgeteer for starting this thread.
I too am guilty of stashing stuff and forgetting about it but since discovering this forum I am forever trawling through my house on the search for that thing you know you've put somewhere
I also am easily distracted and have to be disciplined about accessing this forum.
My excuse at the moment is I am waiting for the pressure cooker to cool down so I can add the beans to my latest rubber mince concoction. Speaking of the pressure cooker, it was the elephant in the room until about 10 years ago. Mum gave me one pretty soon after leaving home but I was always wary of using it having seen her using one at home  For long and complicated reasons, I had to use one and overcame my fear but life moved on and it got shoved in the back of the cupboard only surfacing when we needed to use it as a saucepan. Since discovering MSE and OS, it was bought out again. I can do red kidney beans in 10 mins (plus overnight soak, boiling for 10 mins, bringing up to pressure, then cooling) I still think I save gas as they normally require 10 mins boiling plus over 1 hour simmering (cogs grind - 10 minute boil, 5 minute up to pressure, 10 minute cook, total 25 minutes, from over 70 minutes).
Thanks for the inspiration everyone. Looking forward to trying your ideas soon.

I needed to hang a couple of pictures, so I needed two picture hanging hooks plus four picture frame screws. I went to B&Q and all I could get were bags of the things, costing around £5 a bag(!). So I went home and ferreted around and found 6 ordinary screws (they don't show either in the wall, or on the backs of the frames) and a screwdriver to fit - and hurrah! Both pictures on the wall, behind my head here, and I haven't been brained yet.
I also have a magic drawer in the kitchen and a magic cupboard in the hall - and I can nearly always find anything there - yes, yes, I should have looked closer to home first, shouldn't I?

Well done susyrosy. A magic drawer AND magic cupboard! You are lucky:rotfl: I have a magic cupboard, but I'm afraid to go in there in case I never get out again!0 -
Hi, I've just found this thread and love it as I love finding old things/stash and finding a good use for them- the only problem is this side fights with the side of me who doesn't like clutter (you would seriously not know I didn't like clutter to look at everything around me!). I've always been this way though, a few months ago I threw away something from my Mums (rarely used) sewing basket, when I was about 5 I had a pair of party tight with a magic wand at the ankle, they got laddered so I cut the bottoms off to make into socks- never did though!
I'm slowly sorting out my stuff at the moment- will be keeping this thread in mind as I do so, thanks everyone

since my post about an hour ago I came up with some treasure,i had a bag with some old clothes in that are too tatty for the charity shop, i got a long tshirt out (has "easy is a good thing right?" on- a freebie from a house moving company, not exactly the kind of thing I would wear!!). Im going to turn it into a wheatie/wheat bag as I use them all the time for pain relief and use the shop brought ones but find they aren't long enough- hense the idea of using a long tshirt. I found this site on another thread here about how to make them http://www.diamondthreadworks.com/microwave_heating_bags.htm
i considered sewing some buttons on to make it more pretty but thought that wasn't a good idea for the microwave, but remembered i had a nighty in the bag with buttons on (was given to me and got stained so was binning it), turns out it has pretty flower shapped lilac buttons so they have been chopped off, going to use them for craft project
Thanks for the inspiration

Well done . I love pretty buttons. I try and keep mine in a jar in view so I don't forget about them
Thank you. I'll be checking that link - but I have soooo many projects lined up already, goodness knows when I'll get time:rotfl: Ooh, I wonder if your bag will yield any fabric pieces that you can sew onto towels to pretty them up. Just cut a panel or some simple shapes and bondaweb to a towel. Seam around the edges (I hand-sewed with little straight stitches). You could even sew some buttons on for decoration, as long as its just a hand towel and won't need more than a gentle launder 0 -
Hiya fellow treasure hunters! I like all the recycled/reuse ideas for the treasure and its great to discover some of the lost "bounty" ( choccy versions are nice too!;))
After looking and complaining at the price of knitting bags I have rediscovered a nice jute bag (just uncovered in a box of goodness only knows what) to put next to my seat on the sofa to keep two or three ongoing knitting projects next to me :Tit looks very stylish and it means no more lost wool and I can put in any new things which I'm bound to find over the next visits to the depths of Clutterkingdom!
By the way how do I subscribe to the thread ? answers on a post card please or maybe just a reply on here will do:oMay you fill up the great clutterbucket of life and may all of your leaks be in cheese sauce
Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without:cool:0 -

Good thinking on the knitting bag. Can you see the 'thread tools' thingy near the top of each thread page? If you click on that, you can select 'subscribe to this thread' When you subscribe, you can choose if you want to be notified when there are new postings or not. I have a few favourite threads that I've subscribed to and use the page as my home page, so I can always see what's been updated.
If you have difficulty, maybe someone here can explain it better than me.0
