Treasure-hunting at home challenge

Thanks, I'll try the link. We look forward to your host of posts as we're all nosy about what treasure you find:pThere's a thread on here with ideas for Gifts in a Jar :j
I used a plastic 'jam jar' that had had fruit in it, for my cotton buds. It has a wider neck but even then it was a palava getting them in but it does hold almost a whole pack of about 200.
Be prepared for a whole host of posts in the coming days as we've to make access to every blummin socket in the house for a wiring check. I can tell you now that some of 'em have not seen the light of day since the last one about three years ago, so I'm anticipating this will be somewhat of an epic as opposed to a short info-mercial

More treasure today:j I have a little wooden shelf by my front door and I'd been looking around the shops
for a pretty china thingummy to brighten up the hall. I half-heartedly treasure hunted around the house and lo and behold, I found a very pretty (and fairly expensive) Yankee candle flowery ceramic base and top. It looks perfect on my little shelf too! 0 -
My Dd wanted a little pot to put cotton buds in for baby so i dug out a bag of baby vests she had been given that weren't too good and I cut them up and crochetted a little bowl out of them - took 3 vests that were bound for polishing cloths and looks so sweet, now Im addicted to making them
They are perfect for hair bobbles or craft bits and can be washed - perfect! Clearing the junk to travel light
Saving every single penny.
I will get my caravan0 -

What a brilliant idea ginnyknit. :T What size do you cut them up into? Do you have any pictures of your creations?
Even old vests can be hidden treasure!0 -

When I read your post it made me remember doing this when I got my first flat with two old animal print tshirts, they were my very first sewing project and I did them by hand, I was so proud of them. I got the idea back in the days when I used to get Prima when they always had good things to make for the house and a free pattern inside the mag every month (still have some of them in the loft), I'm sure it was one of the weekend project ideas.
I made myself skirts and leggings, my own cushion covers and curtain tiebacks (I always used to buy curtains a little longer than needed and chop the access off to make tiebacks with, worked out cheaper than buying the seperate ready made tiebacks), I remember turning some cheap duvet covers into bean bags to match the decor of the spare room. Blimey, I used to do so much myself, maybe its time to get DH to dig my sewing machine out of the loft. Does the rediscovering of old talents count as discovering treasure in the house?
Herby x
Rediscovering old talents must be counted as discovering treasure in the house. And digging your sewing machine out of the loft definitely is too. I wish I had used the Prima mag back then. Sadly, I didn't really have the confidence to 'have a go'. That is all changing now - and partly due to the inspiration I get from you lot:D0 -
The above post got me thinking about our old magazines at home. Anyone still buying expensive craft mags, yet still have old ones buried somewhere at home with lovely projects in?
G'won, have a rummage!

While looking for summer vest t-shirts last week, I found £1.29.
DH pulled dishwasher out for a deep clean and found £1.01.

Today i found a small seagrass box which was used in our old house as storage in the bathroom, didn't know we still had it until i was looking upstairs for something else - anyway, its the perfect size for keeping DS's jigsaw pieces in downstairs so they can be tidied away at the end of the day (the cardboard boxes jigsaws come in never last long here!).
I also found 7 6x4 oak effect photo frames that i'd been meaning to use, got them for 75p each in sale about 18 months ago, i ordered some photo prints last week using an introductory offer so only cost me postage and now i've got a nice little gallery in the hallway

I just found my sunglasses which have been missing for 6 months and I have turned the house upside down looking for them. Unfortunately, I gave in at the weekend and bought an identical pair. Now I have two... why is it as soon as you stop looking stuff turns up?! Ebay calls me... they are Raybans so I should get my money back (I got them cost price from work

Oh dear... well did you unearth any other treasure while you turned the house upside-down?:D0
