Treasure-hunting at home challenge
[Deleted User]
Since joining Grocery and frugal-living challenges, I have noticed an exciting ,unexpected plus. My new frugal/non waste mindset has opened my eyes to the treasures that were lying around my own home, but which I never really noticed before.
For example, instead of trawling round craft shops, I checked what I had and was surprised to find unopened bead sets, embellishments, patterns, all perfect for my next projects.
Instead of searching Amazon and Ebay, I've found half a dozen really good books on my own bookshelves that are now on my bedside table ready to read.
Rather than fill my shopping basket with baking goodies, I have found a drawer full of ingredients and recipes that I can bake this whole weekend.
I could go on...
So my personal challenge is to have a regular treasure hunt right here at home. What have I bought over the years and forgotten to use? What can be made, read, utilised or given as a gift to someone or free-cycled that will bring a true smile to someone's face?
So me' hearties, any treasure in your buried chests?:D

Mine is all the duvet covers, sheets and pillow case that we no longer use but were too good to get rid of I can now use in my patchwork and other sewing projects

I have been storing them under my bed now they are in my craft box.
I have also re-discovered the library for loads of craft books :jGetting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time

My 'treasure' today was finding some notebooks with plastic covers. Great to use a shopping list, taping the cover to the side of the fridge. I can then add items as I run out, or plan menus, then rip off the sheet to take to the supermarket0

Treasure found today was a nice N80 phone which I loved using. Great camera and reliable. I bought a new one and the old was left languishing for many months. Now the 'better' phone keeps switching itself off and has already been mended (hassle, hassle, hassle) Well I've remembered my dear old N80 and I'm charging it up ready to put back into use.
I'm going to be grateful that I have resisted the tricky marketing ploys of phone shops to relieve me of my hard-earned cash:j0 -
My treasure-hunt at home today came up with...
some beautiful ceramic serving platters that were put away at the back of the cupboard for 'special occasions'.
That was a few years ago - and apparently there's never been an occasion special enough:rotfl:
So now, they're at the front of a cupboard and I'm going to use then when the grown-up kids come round once a week for dinner. You can't get much more special than your own wonderful family can you?0 -
I agree totally."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

Today, I found on the top shelf in our 'school cupboard' two unopened science kits that were originally bought for DS1 and now can be put to good use by DS2. :jDFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Ooh - they sound fun
My brother had a science kit. All I can remember was a microscope and a test tube with a dead bee inside. 0 -
DD had a rummage through my basket of fabric, trimmings etc & found enough bits to make her engagement announcements - plus she found the 'lost' pva glue.
A dig through my box of bargain stationery turned up 2 birthday cards & a sympathy card (all needed this week)
and a dig in the freezer has saved me cooking tonight
I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0
