  • Annie12, I opened the box, took one look and thought I'll wait til my fella comes home to help me. I couldn't even put up a tiny little vegetable rack without the pieces falling outwards down onto the floor, it's for the best. I'll see how I get on with it. It will be nice to move all the windowsill pots into it, but I do quite like having them about the place checking for seedlings.

I asked the OH about potential of getting house rabbits as never had a rabbit before and a flat out no was spoken. :(

Lynzpower - the steptoe comment made me laugh lots :rotfl:

well today i bought some carrot seeds and a couple of pots so i can grow them in a few weeks ... i plan this week on doing the following

re- learning all about crop rotating ( i have forgotten everything i read)
digging out the bit at the front of my house for the flowers
checking all my seed packets and catalouging (sp) when to plant etc into a diary
planting the garlic ( might as well try)
make lard seed balls for the birds
try to come up with a plan to deal with possible future pests

    any help/advice more than welcome

p.s should i be doing anything else?

    Lol :D
Leave it to him, then you can do the nice bits ;)
Well, although I let fluffy bunny in at night I wouldn't have a house rabbit. I think they need to be outside to eat grass etc. She only goes in her shed at night, the rest of the time she has the run of the garden :)

Onion sets are now planted outdoors. Soil is very soggy but hoping it will be ok.

Literally have just dug the ground over plonked em about 1-2 inches down and thats it? Is there anything else? Have done shallots, red and white onions.
  • The 4 tier housing is pretty secure, quite pleased with it although can see having to replace the cover soonish AND will just one be enough?? Very easy to put up. Great for £12!

    check out this site: http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_veg_diary/veg_planner.asp

you can set it to your town and it tells you your first and late expected frost dates too. Also has a separate calender for fruit!

planting the garlic ( might as well try) yay!

Argh! Are the tips still showing or have you buried them completely??

As long as the tips are showing you're ok. Water in dryspells until mid august then stop cos it can stunt the maturity after that.

(Google is my best friend) :rotfl:

thanks megansmum ...yes it deff will help ...have got all my seed packets out now, and slowly working through them all (ok not quite started yet) as i just found out when i went to go collect the seed packets the shed that i have claimed (cough cough) has got a wee leak ..unfortunatley not the eating variety, so i will need to go buy some felt for the roof and some bitumen at the weekend,

the pots i have for the carrots are quite big ...i asked the woman that sold me them a wee bit about them ...she tried to sell me one for £35 pah my mse ways kicked in nicely and i got two for £6 they are 1 square metre and approx 18 inches or so in height much cheaper than £35 anyways ...

found a website that tells me all i need to know about crop rotation have printed it off as i am sure i will be referring to it fairly often shortly

right off to go look for felt and that web site before i start sorting through these seeds...thanks again

looks like i might have a bit of a problem ...not sure yet ...but i might ... as previously said i got the seeds out of the shed and noticed the roof was leaking ...well looked up felt etc so will get that this week

however thought i would make a start on the seed classification when to sow what part of the polytunnel to sow in etc (crop rotation thingy) and i pulled them outa the tub i had them in ... they were all soaking wet ...splunging to put it mildly ... have laid them all out in the living room (i'm sure you can imagine how happy hubby is at that) hoping they will dry ...but am concerned they may now become mouldy/rot etc ... didnt want to put them on the radiator either incase that caused them to germinate ( i am pretending i think i know what i am talking about)

so... it looks like it might be a very small crop if any for me this year ...but lessons have to be learned somehow

My courgettes have sprouted, aren't the seedlings lovely, like people. I love them I want to kiss them. They weren't in sight on Sunday & now they'reabout an inch high & there are 4 of them. Can't remember how many seeds there were. Now for some names, cute, cuter, oooh I need to get a life. That's now loads of toms, rocket, chillis & courgettes. I know that you shouldn't have faves but I do like my courgettes. Have a good day all.
