Well I've put my growhouse up. I've put 3 of the re-potted tomato plants in there to see if they do any better than the ones outside. I'f planted 2 pots with peas - just 2 seeds in each as the pots aren't massive. Then I've planted 2 pots of lettuce - a light sprinkling of seeds, they're too tiny to seperate! After having tea yesterday I save the black plastic trays which the chicken came in, they're just the right depth! So will sow some more lettuce today or tomorrow before we go away. Is it strange that I get a lovely feeling when I open the growhouse and it's really warm inside??! I know that's what they're for but it's always a pleasant surprise!

My strawbs are producing runners like mad...do I just need to pop the end in a small pot of compost and let it root, and is now a good time to do that? They are getting quite long. They are growing in hanging baskets and planters so will have to affix some kind of pot system!

I put a bit of compost around the root bit then wrap around it with cling film easy peasy :D:D
    Hope it helps you

I should've done that!! I've just laid the runner on a 9cm pot of compost and put pebbles on it. The hanging basket is on the floor, could've done as Jani says tho what a great idea, might do that and put the hanging basket back up save having it on the floor!!

Well... I transplanted most of mine into a raised bed so that was good, but the clingfilm idea sounds really good! Will do that with my final hanging basket! I think I have decided on a greenhouse to replace the crumpled one I have in my shed.... I will just see how long it takes to order in!

I have calculated that I will need to spend only about £30 next year for everything so cost is definitely coming down!

Hi guys... with my "main crop" potatoes, am I right in thinking that I should pick (?) them out 2 weeks after flowering....

What happens if I don't pick them on that timescale? I think mine flowered about a month ago but they only seem to have been in for about 2 or 3 months.....

I would have a feel about and see what's in there! Mine haven't flowered yet but that is prob because they are main crop and im faarrrr away from any warmth!

can you tell just by looking at them? they tasted exactly the same - we had them for tea tonight, and i kept them seperate just for the taste test purpose lol......

blinking gorgeous if i do say so myself!

a Q re strawberries... if the 3rd year is the best year... do they have to have remained in the same position/pots etc as previous years? as mine are currently on year 2, position 3, and they've done rubbish... i was planning on moving them again (i don't think my tiered planter
has been very successful) after this summer... what do you think?

interestingly, just found this picture of the same strawberry planter when i "made" it, 9th April - ?action=view&current=strawbs090410.jpgforums.moneysavingexpert.comstrawbs090410.jpg

ok i'm all done pasting lol...

was sure i had another Q re something... can't think....

I never thought I'd say this, but I really really want it to rain.
Fed up of going out to water all my pots with the watering can, and the grey clouds keep gathering then going away again. My rain dances so far have gained me nothing but odd looks from the neighbours.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
