pinkpig08, I always start my peas off in the cardboard from loo roll or kitchen rolls. The loo roll ones are the right depth and I cut the kitchen roll ones down. That way you get plenty of depth for the roots which they like, and you can put them into the ground or whichever container you're using without disturbing them at all, just plant them cardboard and all when they get big enough.
Watering depends where they are and how hot it gets. My plastic greenhouse is in the sun and any seedlings get fried and dried out instantly, so I start mine off indoors on where they get lots of light but no direct sunlight, then they only need watering every couple of days.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

orange king--- i thought 12" apart was a bit much as well. Do you think i should put a few more in?

All my Carrots are growing in containers and raised beds.

I spaced them in a grid pattern about 2 inches apart from each other.

When they grew into small baby carrots, I just picked every other one to eat and then leave the odd numbered ones to grow bigger.

12 inches sounds more like you are trying to grow carrotts like traffic cones,,,:D

I would put more in between.

Yes, go for it - you can always weed out any stragglers then and not be so disappointed.

on another crop, I have some of the Dig In French Beans now on show but can anyone advise how big they need to be before you pick them?

I think I may need to kill my dog lol Not only does he insist on peeing on plants but he's continually eating my corn. Came down last week and he'd pulled 2 up to chew on and this week he's pulled the leaves off 3 more. Had to restrain myself from shouting at him like a looney since I didn't actually catch him at it and he won't know what I mean.

Tempted to rub chilli powder all over them and teach him a lesson if he does it again.

I've been away for a long weekend, and all my veg plants seem to have practically doubled in size!! Looking forward to picking my first courgette sometime soon - it's 2 or 3 inches long at the moment :j Given how quickly it appeared, it probably won't be long before we're eating it!

My strawbs are producing runners like mad...do I just need to pop the end in a small pot of compost and let it root, and is now a good time to do that? They are getting quite long. They are growing in hanging baskets and planters so will have to affix some kind of pot system!
Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!

Yeah they do that dont they!

Yeah just pot them into soil/compost. They really arent fussy - ive grown lots just off the tiniest runner which have then produced fruit this year. They say they crop the most on their third year

Hi guys... with my "main crop" potatoes, am I right in thinking that I should pick (?) them out 2 weeks after flowering....

What happens if I don't pick them on that timescale? I think mine flowered about a month ago but they only seem to have been in for about 2 or 3 months.....
