I asked if anyone knew if I had to prune my tayberry bush a couple of days ago, have just found this:

which may be of use to others, certainly answered my query :D

CHeers for that Kimmee.... I'm looking forward to next years rasperries :) I have had loads on this years canes but next years growth is about double so can't wait for the insane amount of raspberries coming!

Wellll...... I went to pick up a spade in b and q and ended up getting a load of poorly cared for plants for between 10p and £1 each. Most of them needed dead heading and pruning but a lot of them are perennials so they were a great bargain especially my HUUUGGGEEE lavender reduced from seven quid to a pound all because they forgot to water it a couple of days and some of the purple heads had dried..... Also got some salad leaves for 10p so that was good :)

I may be making some jams today depending on the ripeness of the fruit! I have to say the soft fruit has been the best money saver- I love berries and buy about two or three punnets a week usually! Woo hoo!

Have a good day all :)

for those of you who have rhubarb and are growing brassicas here is a tip I was given yesterday by a friend who has been doing this a lo t longer than us. Apparently if you stick a small bit of rhubarb in the hole before you plan your brassica this will help keep white fly away! He was given this tip by an old boy on the allotment and has done it for the last three years successfully. hth x
Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)

It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!

Well, I checked this morning and there's other buggy type things on salad - am hoping they are eating the green fly, but knowing my luck they're eating the lettuce.. lol

It's a blooming miracle - my rocket has miraculously turned into tomatoes!
I've never grown tomatoes, or bought any seed, but the last lot of rocket I sowed has come up as tomato seedlings. (Confirmed by my mum who grows them so knows what they look like.)
Only I'm totally confused, because I've used the same pack of seeds previously and it's come up as rocket. And if the packet was accidentally mixed in the factory, surely I'd have had a mixture of tomato and rocket coming up, but the first lot was definitely rocket and the second lot was definitely toms.

Wanders off to scratch head in bemusement...........
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Thanks for the advice elsien and izzwizz. Although half yellow the courgette still feels firm so have given it a good feed and will hope for the best. Have not fed anything up until today so have fed the tomatoes that have got fruit on them a well.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

hi hope someone can advise me about planting veg seeds. Today i have bought swede, carrots and spring onion seeds, when i plant them do i put one seed at a time in the earth or just sprinkle the seeds and hope for the best? the swede ones i think on the pkt they have to be 12" apart so is that plant one seed then another 12" apart? sorry but i dont seem to have much luck with seeds. I have onion bulbs in a pot and there coming along very nicely but want the seeds to take off.... thanks :)
