Spring onion can be done pretty close together, and you can sew all the carrots then thin out but its a waste of food. I sew one seed where they are to grow. It means you have loads of seed left so can sew loads lol!Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790

It's a blooming miracle - my rocket has miraculously turned into tomatoes!
I've never grown tomatoes, or bought any seed, but the last lot of rocket I sowed has come up as tomato seedlings. (Confirmed by my mum who grows them so knows what they look like.)
Only I'm totally confused, because I've used the same pack of seeds previously and it's come up as rocket. And if the packet was accidentally mixed in the factory, surely I'd have had a mixture of tomato and rocket coming up, but the first lot was definitely rocket and the second lot was definitely toms.
Wanders off to scratch head in bemusement...........
That is very strange :eek:0 -
Morning all looks like we are all having good progress!!
Will be ready to harvest my first courgette today or tomorrow, it's about 5" long and looks delicious! Will consider doing them again in pots next year as they are all triffid like and healthy. The only disappointment are my tomatoes which got established and then sort of withered away to practically nothing, I still have 6 plants that look OK and have been using bordeaux mixture to try and spur them along a bit!Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0 -

Congrats on the courgette, we had our first harvest this week too, had them fried with butter and garlic, yummy. We grew in pots also and have been delighted with the growth. The flowers are so lovely too, havent eaten them yet but hear they are delicious:)0 -

They are gorgeous flowers!! Not quite brave enough to try to eat the flowers yet. I was convinced they wouldn't work in pots as people were saying best put them in the ground. How many plants do you have? I may just fry mine too actually, will look up freezing them as well so I can get enough to make soup withAhhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!0 -

Hi Kazire, you can grow salad crops now like lettuce, radish, spring onions, beetroot. It might not be too late for courgettes also, but you might want to buy some tomato plants if you want to grow tomatoes, as they probably should have been started off earlier. Also you can sow seed for cabbage and cauliflower for autumn/ winter harvesting and you are not too late to sow seed for peas and beans and carrots....i'm sure there are lots of other veggies you can grow now, but i've only had one cup of tea this morning and need another before my brain gets to first gearGrocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
