hey all hope the gardening is going great guns for you all ... sorry i havnt been around it has been one thing after another since the burglary .....

am looking for a bit of advice ... my chilli plant is starting to grow some buds now (which i think will be flowers) i looked at them a couple of hours ago and they looked fine ... literally just went out to water them just now and i have found that with three of them the top half of the stalks are turning black ... like black lines .. anyone know if this is normal?

    My greenhouse is up!! :j:j:j

So happy! 1 pane of glass is broken, so I'll give them a call today (it's a shaped piece too). Took us from 10am-2.30pm and 6pm-10.15pm so not too bad. Going to have a go at building up the shelving and tray staging today.

There was a rather icky incident with a dead mouse and some slugs yesterday, I'm still freaked out! Not sure if one of the local cats was leaving us a present or if it just chose my gravel to die on! (I need a green tinged queasy smiley! :rotfl:)

I would think they have been grown too hot and too close together, lacking light.
Stick them in a sheltered place, but where they can get a little wind, if you can, you need to harden them up a bit, then they can go out in the ground.
Or if you have a place like that in the ground now, put them in and hope for the best.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

thank you soo much....i have them all in my garden propped up against anything i can find, it'll be a real shame if they die now!!
the stems are so delicate they are looking so sorry for themselves!

    Hello! :j
May I join in please? I know I am late to the forum (already at 100 pages!) but all your tips and advice have helped me so much. :)

I grew tomatoes last year which went well, so this year I have tried growing a few more things...

    Strawberries
    Courgettes
    Aubergines
    Sweet Peppers
    Sweet Corn
    Onions
    carrots
Tomatoes (gardens delight and money maker)
Rocket Salad (sowed before I realised I dont like rocket salad - ah well something for the in-laws to eat!)

Think thats it. I was all keen to plant lots of fruit and veg, completely forgetting I can't dig up the garden! :rotfl:
(I live with the in-laws at the moment )

So everything is going to end up in pots and tubs. I am a little worried how i'll plant the sweetcorn in a tub as they are better planted together to protect against wind and improve pollination. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I also have a strawberry related question - I have one strawberry plant with two runners. Should I stick to 2 runners to ensure I still get fruit? Also, one of the runner babies has got a baby of its own!! (its still connected to the mummy plant) Should I stop this, so they dont take all the goodness from the mum plant and thrus produce zero fruit??? :(
If another runner appears do I just cut it, or does it have to be done specificly?

Any help and advice is welcome :T

    Thank you muchly :D

Rescued a couple of Gardener's Delight tomatoes from Wilko today for 20p each. Look a bit floppy but I reckon a few days watering, sunshine and support will get them back on top.

Looks like I'm going to be busy tomorrow. Potatoes need their final earthing up, courgettes, corn and beans need potting on from their initial trays and I'm making a nice floral tub for a change so the bees and stuff can get used to stopping at my garden instead of bypassing it as a concrete desert lol
