    Got a solitary Honeoye strawberry plant in a hanging basket and it has suddenly developed 5 flowers - do I need to remove these to help the plant out?

    Many thanks :)

    This is the info I found, but others may know better
    Summer fruiting strawberries planted in spring and perpetual strawberries should have their first blooms pinched off to enable a good root system to establish. Strawberries planted in September can be left to flower and fruit in their first summer.

    Hi everyone :D:D

    Just found this thread... I've literally just been outside to finish planting up some bits and bobs. I've NEVER had a garden before, let alone planted any fruit or veg so I'm on a steep learning curve.

    I've planted 8 strawberry plants which I got from Poundland. They were just a bundle of dry roots so I tried my best but I'm not sure they'll survive!

    I also got a pack of 6 herb plugs from Morrisons which I planted and some sweet pepper and mixed lettuce seeds too.

    All of these were planted in those stacking pots from Poundland - the ones with three things sticking out... They're all in the lean-to greenhouse now so I'm hoping they'll do ok even if it does get a bit nippy. I put holes in the bottom of the pots and a layer of stones then compost - I'm hoping that's ok!

    Like I said, I've never grown anything before so if you see any glaring errors in what I've done please let me know. I'd quite like one of those meters you use to see if the plants need watering... Anyone know where I can get one at a reasonable price?

    My tomatoes have FLOWERS!!!! Surely it's far too early for flowers? They've been in the greenhouse which is toasty warm during the day, and it's only on the "Red Cherry" and Tigerellas, which are supposed to produce fruit in the season but how exciting! They look far too small for flowers!

    nonpol hate to say it but this is sadly old news ... there's alot of other info out there that would scare the living daylights out of you if you looked hard enough ... but it is always good to see these things highlighted everynow and then

    shelvis am loving the pics ... your plants are doing so well ...

    a wee question if i may ... i planted my carrots out in tubs a few weeks ago now and i still havnt even seen a hint of a green shoot is this normal? also my other plants aint doing too good either ... i am watering them (but not too much) and making sure they aint out in the too cold weather but they seem short my peppers and chilli's arnt even an inch high yet ... and i have had them for over a month now ..bought them at an inch high ...

    think i have alot more learning to do ... back to the books it is for me then

    Erm, good question! :rotfl::rotfl:

    I think there's mint, coriander, chives, rosemary, parsley and basil. Or something like that!!! (Threw the packet away!)

    I think I'd like some different mints so I'm going to order both collections from here on eBay I think. I really like mint tea so I'd like to try the different ones. Might try some rhubard from there too!
