    I used the time out { naughty chair } yesterday for the first time , due to her refusing to put something back in her room that she threw downstairs { a childrens stool } . I must admit I would normally ignored this behavouir for an easier life , but I choose to use this as an example that she must do as she is told by me .
    This is probably a good example why it has got out of control to start with.

    She did keep getting off the chair , so I kept replacing her back onto the chair without giving her eye contact or speaking . { when i first put her there I told her in a firm voice that she was to stay there for how long and why }
    This did go on for over 15 minutes as she then thought it was a game running off the chair . I kept my cool . But I then did resort to restraining her on the chair which did last around another 8 minutes as she got a way a few times - In between screaming help { who knows what the neightbours were thinking :(}
    In the end she did apologies , after sitting still for the 3 minutes .

    However after this I told her to put the stool back and she refused :eek:.... I then distracted her and told her if she wanted to help she was to put the stool back ..she then did ;)

    I just want to know did I do the correct thing after she still refused to put the item back ?
    And should I have restrained her ?

    Other than that I think it worked as a whole because she gave her dolly time out later on for not behaving and listening to her ...:rotfl:
    Personally if she didn't do as told, ie put the stool back ,it would have been straight back on the naughty step.
    As I said before I restrained my DD a couple of times, after that it wasn't needed, as soon as she realised she had to do what I said, no mucking about and I willing to do whatever it took to make it happen, sitting on the naughty step wasn't a problem.

    My DD also gave her dollies naughty steps for various reasons at the time, I think it's a very good sign, she is learning.

    My DD has grown into a very well behaved 6 year old, a credit to us anywhere, fun, full of life and happy to be within her known limits. I'm sure yours will turn out as you want, if you remain strong.
    Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
  • Can't really add much to what Lotus has said, I think you have caught this young enough to turn it around, well done you :)

    Awwwww.......The dolly thing is sooooo cute to watch though isn't it (Yikes......I'm getting broody now :eek:)

    i'm glad it's working. One word of advice my health visitor gave me when i was in the same situation - pick your fights wisely - sometimes it really doesn't matter!! eg if my DS decides he doesn't want to wear hat, gloves and scarf for a 5 min walk to the shops, then that's fine! i stick his gloves in my pocket for when he complains and we quickly discus how much warmer his hands would be if he wore his gloves when we left. This beats a30 min tantrum and a rol on the floor trying to physicslly force on his winter gear (iyswim).
  • Hi I haven't read all the posts, so this might have already been suggested..... if you're still worried that she might try to "cook" again could you switch off the main cooker/oven switch at the wall.... or even at the main fuse box if you have a newer trip switch type one, to isolate the oven.

    Then she wouldn't be able to do any harm.... unless she knows, or works out how to switch these back on.
