:mad: Builder does a bit of work then legs it with the cash.

Man gets depression, can't work.

:cool: Man starts thread on MSE

:eek: Man's benefits stopped following medical.

Man appeals, wins, gets benefit restored.

Man gets CCJ and charging order against builder.

Builder decides he doesn't want to repay the money.

Man borrows money to have roof and heating put in.

Man tells The One Show about problems.

:j The One Show does a report on him

:T MSE thread goes ballistic

Man contacts Cowboy Trap. They get interested

Man contacts DIY SOS. Hundreds of MSErs e-mail executive producer. They get interested.

Man contacts Cowboy Builders. They get interested.

DIY SOS say they'll feature man.

:eek: Man wets himself.

:T MSE thread continues to explode.

DIY SOS agree to do a Big Build episode, promise to finish the house.

:eek: DIY SOS start filming. Man and sons wet themselves.

:mad: Man spends whole damn weekend packing and cleaning bathroom.

:beer: Man stops writing summary.

:A Man moves to friend's house to dog-sit while house is finished.


There's a lot more going on between each stage of course, but the story's not over.

In coming issues:

:mad: Man watches disbelievingly as MSErs struggle to book a hotel room. Whole rebuild project involves fewer phone calls and problems.

Man and sons do the 'Open your eyes' bit. Wet themselves again.

:A Man tries to thank MSErs for all they've done and fails.

Man reveals a cunning plan to force builder to sell his house and repay some of the people whose lives he destroyed.

:T MSErs create website to help and support people who have been ripped off by crooks

:beer: Man's life restored, gets off incapacity benefit, starts working again, finds love and replaces car sold to pay for electrical and plumbing work.

That entire break down is fantastic and haven't stopped smiling since I read the bit where you wet yourself. Your mood has changed dramatically from the first few pages and I bet you can't believe what a difference a few months on MSE has made. It certainly has to me since I began posting and following Niddy's guidance.

Hope all your dreams and hopes for the future come to fruition.

Fingers crossed mine do to.... awaiting a PCT decision about funding on an op I need - should get the yes/no in the next week or so. Mid June could be exciting for all of us.

Ooops sorry Rainbow Liberty, no offence meant or taken. I have a very warped sense of humour and you made me chuckle!

Many thanks all for trying to dig me out of the hole I put myself in to while I was away cooking, eating dinner & generally tidying the house ready for the cleaner tomorrow (Yes I know I shouldn't but she gets paid to clean, not tidy IYSWIM :rotfl:

How far does your dodgy builder live from yours?

I'm wondering how he would take loads of people (us MSE'ers) turning up at his house and just standing outside admiring it, maybe even taking a few photos of it?

Do you think that would go some way to putting the woolies up him? I think even if it didn't, it might be a fun thing to do! lol

Years ago, when finances had been better for me and life was different (but not necessarily better /abusive EX boyfriend but had money!!!!) I used to do exactly the same, tidy before the cleaner came. Sometimes I'd have to leave messages for her to completely miss out rooms that I'd been rearranging or just hadn't got to tidying......

Now I've got nowt and got nowt to lose anymore either, not even my health these days but still feel richer in life than I did in those dark days.

I honestly believe that money alone cannot make you happy.

Having enough to get by helps,not having enough can make life a nightmare. Always thought Mr Micawber summed it up about right "Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen nineteen six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."

Don't know who Mr Micawber was but totally agree, if you look on my thread I started earlier Story So Far..... it shows I was managing my money (and paying my debts back at £1 per month) until I was rushed into hospital and kept there for two months. Now in a spiral of charges etc. Hoping to claw myself back with all the help and support I've received from here

Mr Micawber was in David Copperfield by Charles Dickens (& no, I am not that well read but it was essential sunday evening viewing when I was growing up - thank you BBC!)

So sorry to hear that you have had such an awful knockback and really hope that you find your way back to an even keel soon.
