Just called Orange. The Desire is due in at anytime and is expected over the weekend
It is right annoying with Orange- some of the advisors seem to know what is going on, others not at all... why can't they just let us pre-ordered it for delivery as soon as it is available between now and May- not having it nailed down is annoying me and not being on a contract with them now is costing me more!!! One place I read it wouldn't be about till May then you have been told it is expected over the weekend.Which one i want to know. I have next experienced such gadget lust before; I even sent a Twitter message thingy to the Head of Orange PR - how sad / desperate is that!!!??!Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!0 -
I have the hero.
Here are a couple of web sites I found useful.
They are hero based ..But android is on desire so I would think many of the tips would be just as useful.

I could be wrong matey but on my Hero if Wi-Fi is switched on and a known network is available then it will automatically use that network over mobile data. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.

Your not on your own there,I've even thought about getting the X10,selling it then buying the desire sim free,if the farce continues with orange much longer I'm going down this route.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

You're right. I've had the flu ever since I got the phone, so I've hardly been out of the house for the last 10 days. Seems I've used 10.18mb of my 3gb allowance lol.0 -
It was a genuine question since you failed to back your post up with any reasoned ideas.... very defensive you iPhone owners
No problem with genuine questions, like mrchagle asked, but the troll comment was unnecessary, looks through my posts, I've got an iPhone, 8900, 9700 and Desire....300 posts in 4yrs hardly a troll maketh0 -
Hi,
Anyone know when this phone will be back in stock on T Mobile? My order was cancelled until they get more in0 -

"just isn't the same" isn't quite a critique is it?personally, i hate itunes, and using an Android phone frees you from the shackles of being bound to itunes.
Screen visibility outside was also poor without it ramped up to max brightness, and as bad as the iPhone battery is, I found the Desire worse...So having it at max brightness all the time wasn't really viable.
A known issue with AMOLED screens is that they are not quite as good in glaring sun light. However the colours are more vivid indoors which is a fair trade off and HTC phones have sensors which can adapt the screen brightness to the lighting conditions.I got a few forced closes on apps that should be able to run without problems, I'm talking the likes of Flixster or Kayak, not some backroom developers.
Forced closes always happen with all smartphones including the iphone. Check new updates for the phone for new fixes to software problems.Only way to wake the screen is the top left power button, which I just found irritating.
I've been using an HTC phone for a couple of years now, and as the button is right below your index finger when you're holding the phone, it quickly becomes intuitive.Music player is very weak, the design just looks old, and as much as the iPhone is 3yrs old now, the design of the music player still looks newer than the one on the Desire.
The phone is very customisable, if you don't like something about it, you can easily change it, including something as integral as the music player - check xda developers forums for alternatives/ new skins. As far as I'm concerned, as long as it performs all the functions a music player should, I'm not bothered. The other advantage is that it has a nice built in FM radio.Stock photo gallery wouldn't play nicely with iPhoto, so things like events or faces just ended up in a general folder, without categorisation.
It's not surprising that a piece of software designed by Appple for the iphone does not work as well on other mobile operating systems. An alternative would be something like picasa or you could look in the android forums for a solution.Just think Apple have got it right, and as much as they change things at a snail pace, maybe that is the right thing to do, and the Android way of releasing a new one every few weeks isn't.
I prefer to have a phone that will be updated constantly with new features as they come out, not just a couple of updates per phone. As this phone is very similar to the google's flagship phone in hardware, the software is likely to be supported for a long time. I love the thought that in a couple of years time, I could flash a new ROM onto the phone and have it feel nice and fresh with added functionality - it will increase the value and shelf-life of the phone. Hopefully an update will allow the google maps navigation programme to come to the UK (although if you trawl the net you can already find it).
But each to their own. If you're someone who's gotten very used to the excellent and highly polished iphone, you probably won't be happy with anything else. I've been using the awkward winmo for years so I'm easier to please and used to customising my phone. With the htc desire available for free on £25/month 18 month contracts, I feel it is a very good value alternative. Also note, many reviewers have rated it above the iphone - check techradar's top 15 mobile phones - they have given pole position to the Desire.0
