Got a gorgeous cream coloured jug from the CS yesterday - which is now sitting proudly on the kitchen window sill with a coriander plant in it - for £1.50.0

A pink chopper bike off freecycle for my DD. DS1 is going to do it up for her so they are both happy:D Collecting it tomorrow.
Not quite a find but DD was ill today so we stayed in. Normally on a Saturday we would be out wasting money on stuff we don't really need;)Sealed Pot Challenge Member NO. 853 :j0 -
Disflop
I'm a bit jealous....went past my local charity shop today and found out it's not open on a saturday.....and only open 9 til 4 during the week. I don't get home til 4.30.....how do they make any money? As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -

Staffed by volunteers presumably who have other commitments? Maybe you could offer to lend a hand?Piglet

My feathered friends would be very grateful
Okhere is the recipe lol
you need some empty yoghurt pots, bird seed and some vegetable suet or lard.
Melt one part suet/lard and add two parts seed to the pan until the fat melts
make a small hole in the bottom of each yoghurt pot and add some string, knot it at the bottom
Fill each yoghurt pot up with the mixture and make sure that there is some string poking out so you can hang it up. Allow them to set overnight in the fridge
When they are set, disregard the yoghurt pot and hang up wherever you wishFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
I've been told that birds can't break down polyunsaturated fats in vegetable oil, so you should use lard or beef suet as the saturated fat is much better for them. Also unless the fat is completely hard at room temperature, don't risk it - if it feels a bit greasy or soft, it can get on the birds feathers and kill them by ruining their weatherproof properties.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0

Thanks for that Wssal00. I didn't think about using yoghurt pots. I'll have to ask the boys at work to donate their pots to my birds.
Piglet I did ask if they needed any help and was told that they had more than enough volunteers. I find it very strange. As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
couple of things really; in a charity shop in devizes, i picked up a book with bread recipes in (365 i think) for 30p. my daughters loved it so i looked on line for one for them, and it was over £20.!!!!!
and i have started crochet again so have been buying the cheapest wool i could find and i thought i had a bargain; i was buying the small 25g balls for 69p each. useful for the small granny squares. then when i went back to buy some more, they didnt have the white in small balls so i went wandering around the shop to find some and found 100gr balls of the same wool, robin, for £1.30. all colours.
buying 100gr the way i had been, would be £3.16.a real saving so i bought quite a bit for my next 2 projects.
this was in C and H fabrics in canterbury.0 -
Yesterday I got a wooden 3 shelf stand that I am using for seed trays in my garden curtesy of my neighbour who was throwing it out. Today she has thrown out a 5 tier silver pan stand. I was about to buy one from Argos but luckily saw it on my way out the gate. She gave me that too. Think I might have to keep an eye on her garden see what she throws out next cos she said I can have anything she throws out.
Also during my sunny day walk found a total of 26p on the floor and picked it up. Is it sad that I find all this exciting? lolDeclutter 2005. 32/20250 -
all my neighbours seem to be thrifty - hardly anyone throws anything re-usable away! frugal find today - a brilliant neighbour, who works for a reputable company, who came to service my back boiler and gas fire and charged only a very very reasonable £30!0
