I guess if it sat their for long enough and i still want it then if and when it i pop in, unless i ask i dont get?

The point is that you're already getting it for next to nothing!

Many charity shops have signs up asking their clients not to ask for discounts.

How cheap do you have to be to haggle in Charity shops?? You are working so can probably well afford to spend the likes of 7 and 5 quid on knicknacks... consider them a bargain ...

I note also that you can afford to go on a month long holiday to New Zealand (the flight alone must be astronomical), you also make mention of non essentials like mobiles and taxis (taxis!!!)but want charity shops to knock prices down???

i know, and dont blame them although it just that it doesnt hurt to ask occasionally?

    I suppose it doesn't hurt,but it's not something that I would do....

It still amazes me that charity shops have sales...

Today I bought a pair of plain leather lace-ups.They'll be great for walking to work when it gets colder. They were half price and look sturdy (just the way I like them!).What a bargain.:D

it taken years and i mean years of saving and hard work, doing all the overtime i can get etc to save on a minimum wage job plus having a place to keep reverbe to get to new zealand.
the same would go for a new mobile if and when i ever get a new one as i also consider them a luxury/non essential.
i very, very rarely get a taxi anywhere, and was only thinking/contemplating getting a taxi home from the airport to make it possibley easier.
it might seem cheap, but i was only thinking of asking?

fair enough but perhaps consider not taking expensive holidays if they are that way beyond your budget..?Or perhaps cut them down to a more reasonable level?? I know you prob work hard for minimum wage but do you realise how long a month actually is???Most non celebs plump for a week or fortnight...

this stuff is the height of luxury to me.. mobiles are not important. I have yet to hear a conversation that couldnt wait til they found a landline or was worth having at all.Holidays are a luxury not an essential and it is that type of thinking that has lead to ppls debt issues. UK has plenty of nice countryside and beaches etc that ppl can holiday on - they dont need to fly across the world at a cost of thousands..

Consider Mr Lewis's mantra... do you really need it???

IMO quality of a whole lifetime is more important than a brief trip away..was it really worth all the pennypinching etc or could you have used all that money to make your life better on a day to day basis?

On the other hand if the poster has worked hard on a minimum wage for years then good luck to them for saving for so long. Personally I wouldn't want to go that far for less than 3 weeks - but think about having to go back to work after a month off!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I really hope you enjoy your hard worked for trip but like others was shocked at the thought of asking for discount in a CS.

I personally hate the idea of haggling at a Carboot, but it does now seem to be expected. I liked the look of an electric fire at a recent
Carboot, but the £20 asked was more than I had, as I moved away the Seller said look I was only going to ask £15 but people always knock it down,so I am now the proud owner.

Have a lovely time on your trip.

1st time post on here, so my frugal finds are from this week rather than today. MIL bought a load of clothes from a car-boot for 20p each item. Only things unusuable were a white school shirt (too small- will pass on) and a gingham school dress that she bought in the wrong colour-how I'm unsure as everyone of her grandkids has gone to the same school :D but I'm sure someone will want it somewhere. For anyone needing a girls swimming costume who shops in Primark they ahd a lot reduced in the upto7 year old range there were 2 packs of costumes for £2, so £1 each (shop with a mate if you don't need 2, or don't have twin girls) :D
