  • It's my first year growing potatoes, and one plant had just gone yellow and fallen over before flowering, so thought there would be no crop. But I decided to dig the spot anyway, and found 3 (admittedly small) potatoes. Had them for tea last night, with salad based on home-grown lettuce.

I've discovered a way to "extend" coleslaw - mix it with some sauerkraut. (The local Eastern European food shop has big jars of it, and they keep in the fridge once opened). And it also lowers the calories!

And my local Homebase was selling off potted rainbow chard plants at 50p yesterday, I cleared them out and they are now growing in my veg patch!

Thanks for the sauerkraut tip - I love this stuff, my parents were Eastern European and we had sauerkraut on high days and holidays - but always with the turkey at Christmas. It's worth getting experimental with Eastern European foods, some of them are gorgeous. Often shops such as Home Bargains or B&M Bargains have them at greatly reduced prices.

Noisy neighbour was burning dead animals outside my window (I'm not veggy but BBQs always smell so rank to me)and having his loud cronies round so for sake of head and nose decided to walk down to the little river and freed the ducks with some manky bread..while there discovered blackberries :) got myself stung and caught a few times on the nettles and thorns - flipflops no longer suffice round there(havent been along that path for a while) but took so many home in the bread bag that I filled a medium Tupperware. There never used to be any round there so will have to invest in a long pair of rubber gloves and wear a long sleeved top I think ..

But enough for me and flatmate for a coupla portions each to follow the ys new potatoes going to make HM bombay potatoes with for tea... for all in all the whole meal plus 2 lots of puds costs 60p for spuds , a few p for seeds and spices already in store cupboard and free fruit :))

EDIT and the spuds are enough also for another meal each.. hehehe

Popped into my local Matalan to have a browse at the sale items and I managed to find 4 harem style trousers for my LO and a light blue cardigan shrug for the grand sum of £3. I also for myself bought a very in style maxi dress and corsage cardigan for the total of £6. Very pleased with my purchases

Why on earth would you expect to get a discount in a charity shop (even if it is damaged)?
