Beat this then.....
A POSTMAN has pleaded guilty to stealing around 11,000 items of mail.
Asa Dilliway, 36, of Fellcroft, Pitsea, admitted snatching letters and parcels belonging to Royal Mail between December 2006 and October 2008.
In February, police recovered 58 bin sacks filled with mail, 76 Royal Mail red delivery bags, and a red postman’s bicycle during a raid on a house in Swanstead, Vange Basildon.

If l recall the result of the above case was 200 hours community service0 -
as i have said before, cases with theft of mail should carry a compulsory jail term
costs should also be pursued via the proceeds of crime act(is that it?) so if need their house or whatever should be sold0 -

If RM stopped delivering the annoying junk mail that must make up about 50% of their workload and just ends up going straight into the bin then they could focus on getting the "proper" post delivered which might attract more customers back."A nation of plenty so concerned with gain" - Isley Brothers - Harvest for the World0 -

and where does the profit come from to support this?
look how much mail is competitor(DSA) mail
look at the regulated prices for postage inc DSA
then look at the growth of unaddressed mail
so what you propose would just increase the cuts in staff0 -

A few years ago around Xmas time I was out with the dogs early in the morning & by the "box" where the post gets delivered around the round there was a bag full of parcels & I assume letters. This was at the end of an estate with no houses overlooking it, ripe for thieves. I called RM & complained and was told that there was so much post they had to leave it like that. Hopefully there were no dishonest people driving past, as I'm pretty sure it would have been the postie blamed if it went walkabouts.0

ah the infamous RM 'secure bag drop'
less so in cities but a real issue out of town
though i have seen in London they often use HCT's(the trolleyes posties push) as back drops by chaining them to lamposts/fences!0 -

In our family, we always put birthday cards inside a plain brown envelope and try and make them look as 'unlike' a birthday card as we can. That seems to stop them going astray.0 -

They hand delivered the cards to me and four others to take statements for court but the rest was resealed in a cellophane bag and put bag in the post so sounds like it might be what happened.
Well it's definitely the same general area so who knows?
Horrible thought: Maybe there's more than one?!
I'm so sorry about your little one's birthday cards. I think that's so rotten. Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0
