A couple in Colchester bought a bungalow from a former postie and found the loft stuffed with over 2000 items of mail.

We had one a year or two ago, they found the reason for a problem in the local river was the fact that part of it had a sort of fake 'dam' which was actually sacks of undelivered mail.

I think I had a manager deliver this morning, he certainly wasn't my usual and he did everything completely by the book. he arrived at 9am f where my normal chap is more likely to be between 11-12, and he asked my name before he allowed me to sign for a recorded item (yes i actually signed for a recorded!).

I also noticed that he was struggling a bit to work out how to carry the bag easily as it was bulging at the seams, he wasn't new as I asked him, he said he worked in the office and had done for over 20 years.

Its about time they start taking this kind of thing more seriously. Chopping of fingers would be good.

usually they trot out depression/money problems/drugs/drink/family problems yada yada yada yawn yawn
and the judge usually laps it up
a mandatory prsion sentence should be applicable to thefts from positions of trust
    however(and its a big however)
the managerial style in RM is one of bullying and harrasing staff so i can see how some staff feel pressured
a favourite line of RM managers is if you take the mail out you must deliver it regardless of the time
so new starts are dumped on the street(often just an hour or so from their finish time) with hours worth of mail to deliver
then there's RM still encouraging staff to deliver from their private cars
    i could go on
