I was told twice that if it is the gas this is put down as wear and tear and won't be repaired. Not sure if that is true or whatever but that is what the engineer said.0

Further to my above post, I have now been able to remove the interior panel from the freezer section, and am confronted with an enormous block of solid ice at the base of the cavity. I will have to wait now until it melts, before I can proceed any further.

So thanks to everyone who takes the time to share their experiences and bring together the little guys :T0 -
an easy fix..thanks for the advise. note it is obvious that freezing is the problem if the screw holes (inside the fridge holding on the back cover (fan housing, lights etc) are frozen up.:T0

I have an RSH1DBMH purchased august 2007 ,christmas 2009 fridge fan froze solid and did a thaw myself with a hair dryer not knowing of the common problem with these models.may 2010 water despenser intermittently stops working, june 7 2010 ice-maker stops working and 2 days later fridge and freezer defrosts and we loose all the food.
I re-set the fridge by plugging it out for a couple of minutes and putting it back in, fridge part works fine for a few days again but no freezer or ice-maker working with the display showing -20!!!.
June 12th main fuse in the house goes down and i call an electrician
and he says it is the fridge,he had a quick look at it and said water must have gotten onto the internal wiring after it had defrosted.
plugged it back in after leaving it dry out for a day and fridge works again, lost second lot of food...
From then on it sounded like a tractor and made strange clanking noises every now and then and i decided to look into my warranty and found the link to this forum...
Thank you so much everyone on this!
I put in my serial number into the samsung website and waited 3 weeks, got no response from them so rang them on their helpline and they sent out a repairman last week.
He looked at the fridge and heard the noise it was making and said it was ready to go on fire and was highly dangerous to leave it plugged in.(black motor bit at the back was red hot and all the paint had bubbled off...)
Nice to hear when you have only just moved into your new house that you built yourself and have spent your life savings on..350k+
I am promised a replacement unit so i will post the outcome when i know more...
Fingers crossed
ps i have a samsung laptop, flatscreen tv & dvd player and they are all under my watchful eye!0 -
Mrs Edmunds,
call me cynical but you don't happen towork for Appliance DIY Repairs by any chance do you?
Just reading your posts where you keep typing their name in bold, and keep renaming them in the same post let alone the same thread, strikes me as strange.
All well and good if they are legit, but for you to keep repeating yourself is weird.

new one arrived yesterday. it looks maybe a bit nicer on the outside but a lot cheaper inside IMHO and there is a weird lump on the top of it that looks like a factory fitted mod, we aren't hopeful that this will last for very long but if it does me a couple of years I will be ok about it as we are planning a major move then anyway where refrigeration will be even more vital. They have messed with bits that were fine, made the plastic look thinner and generally the inside just wouldn't have been what I would have gone out and bought, but the outside looks smart. Style over substance I think. Oh and you know how everyone at Samsung and all the engineers were at great pains to tell me that they had "no known problems" with the RS21 (LIARS) well DH said the guys who delivered it said they take back a LOT of these babies. Like we didn't already know. They thought he had bought another one and were querying his sanity. When I do have to buy a new anything in future I will be researching it to within an inch of its life. On that note my DW blew up on Sunday, seems to have shorted itself totally, let's see if that is fixable.... Isn't life fun.0

samsung have the worst possible customer service i have ever had to deal with. when my fridge broke down i called them, they said all work and parts would be done for FREE. 5 weeks later and im still waiting for the part. the light bulb blew causing control panel to also blow. they are now trying to say i have to pay £140 for original visit and costs of parts and work. they have left me without a fridge for 5 weeks and its only been this long as i called them. all they are doing is apologising for how useless their staff are. do not buy a samsung fridge if you dont need it for more than two years!!0

Having read many of these threads, I'm not put off buying a Samsung. Would a LG or Maytag be a better bet? Thanks0

Samsung are aware of a design fault on some american style fridge freezers.
If yours is one of these phone samsung direct quote your model number, inform them you are aware of the watch dog reports on the fridge freezer problems .
The retailer who sold you the freezer is liable for defective goods sold ,up to 6 years after purchase.
If yours is one of the design fault freezers ,samsung will probably resolve the issue ,rather than you taking the retailer to court under sale of goods act, european directive
It is a design fault, and this over rides any outstanding warranties.
Do not be fobed off
that the manufactuers warranty has expired
If it is under 6 years old and defective in design ,you must request samsung or the retailer take responsibilities for your problem0
