VICTORY!!!!!!
OK so we did not get the full amount back but something is better than nothing right now, at least we don't owe her, eh!
We were awarded £187.46 from the original £625, plus £80 court fees. TOTAL: £267.46
Arrived 13:40 - LL was already there - she brought 2 people (decorator and decorators daughter) but we stood firm on our own. Court cleark asked if we would allow her decorator to come in for support, not evidence or get involved, we allowed it as she could not speak or be a part.
Started off with our comments, then hers, then mixed comments from both parties.
Overall the judge was more lenient to the LL than we thought but equally well she was fair and she did say that we had done all we could to contact the LL plus at one point the LL said 'I must admit I felt the matter was over and done with once I told you you were not getting your deposit back', which we don't think the judge much liked.
The main ones we thought we would get more back on were the carpet and the re-decorating, which she clearly had planned to do anyway but if we had more experience maybe we could have done better but there you go
This is what the judge awarded us back:
£28.5 window cleaning
£15.99 blind x 1
£10 blind installation
£85 cleaning
£27.97 carpet (estimated)
£20 redecorating (esimated)
£80 court fees
We had to esimate some of the costs towards the end as we couldn't figure out how the judge was working them out.
Glad it's over! In true MSE style, £67.46 will go on dinner tonight and £200 will go into investment funds @£50 per month (so 4 months free) with Hargreaves Lansdown, which I am learning about this month...
Thanks soooo much to everyone on here that has helped, inspired and advised, made us laugh and so much more - we could not have made it without you and this is testament to the very spirit of MSE that so many came together for one cause! A big thank you from Mr EL too as the strong but silent type who has found much support from my relaying all the comments from you all over the last 11 months :T
PS: I wrote a message for 20 mins on here and lost it as by the time I posted it I had been logged out and the screen cleared - so this is a slightly shorter one, how frustrating!MFW #185

pru - does the loser have to get the winners written permission to avoid a CCJ even if they pay up within the time limit set by the judge ? i cannot see how that works as surely monies are paid into the court first who then send it on to the winner ?
The money I won in court was sent to me and not via the court.
Just read this about CCJs:-

If that happens again, use the 'back' arrow until you get to your message and then copy it. Then log back in and paste the message.RENTING? oooh - I have heard of Hargreaves Landsdown from my Ex and have been looking for ways to invest to meet a potential lump sum when I finally take the equity out my flat and let it out...
EL - let me know what you go for... Rob (ex) suggested the Vantage Share Account as I inherited a load of shares from my dad's portfolio when he died last year... I want to keep them for a rainy day but also want someone else to have the hassle of managing them!
Anyway - well done again... and I promise that when I become a landlady I will make sure I don't act like the broom-stick rider you had to deal with (not hard really if one has a shred of decency!)- Mortgage @ March 2008: £194,965 ; Lightbulb Moment: July 2011: £164,926; End Date: March 2033

Personally I'd have been tempted to knock the crutches out from under the old cowbag - accidentally on purposelol
Hurdler wrote: Anyway - so long as EL feels a sense of victory for all this slog, that's the most important thing... that it was worth it for them...
Sure is! Congrats EL
Sincerely hope you & your OH enjoy your special dinner tonight _party_

Ah, I tried the press back and nothing was there so I gave up... such alot of writing had gone into it but recreated as best as poss.
Well the £50 a month is prob with the vantage account, it's just a question of which trust we choose I s'pose - for £50 a month you can only choose 1 trust I think.
Anyway, we talked about it again and realised that as our DVD player bit the dust last week, much of it will go on that, isn't that just the way things go damnit!!!!MFW #185
