looking for a cheap 'leather' sofa
  • just to add our pennies worth (wondering if to follow up on this or not) we had the scala 'problem' after purchasing it in late 2006. We reported it to FV after about 3.5 years, and not having seen these forums and ignorant of the bi-cast leather issue, we had our sofa covers replaced. Unfortunately, they replaced them with the same rubbish they were originally covered with. We are therefore in exactly the same situation we were in in the first place.
I'm not sure however, if its worth pursuing FV given that they did 'fix' (ha!) the original problem, albeit for about 3 months before the peeling started again. My logical side tells me we do have a case, since irrespective of whether FV replaced the damaged parts, we were still misold the sofas as 100% leather, and the replacement parts were not 100% leather either.
Would you pursue it? Nothing to lose by trying have we.

I am not mixing anything. I claimed against them successfully, got a full refund and learnt a lot about their business.
I know their suppliers, item numbers, I have seen their "leather" by-cast under test conditions.
~If you look at recent consumer regulations, you will see that deliberate misadvertising with a view to profit is a criminal offence, and Trading Standards are the prosecuting body.
Consumers are indeed entitled to refund - sales of goods act specifies "reasonable time" from the time YOU DISCOVERED the problem. It can well be 5 years after purchase. It can be 2 weeks after a victim reads this forum and realises the con.
you choose what law to apply - yes, several apply.
Breach of contract, Sales of Goods, and Consumer protection from unfair trading regulations!
People who bought that rubbish from Furniture Village are indeed entitled to their FULL refund. And I can state that Furniture village KNOW by now that they sold tosh as genuine leather. If they refuse refund in the knowledge that what they sold is not leather, they will be in big trouble, and involving police or at least trading standards (by now they will have full authority to fine FV, as the ruling was to refund everybody!) could become the next course of action. But thy WILL refund! Complaint in writing should be the first step. There is evidence that can be presented to cmall claims court, I know who exactly holds this evidence, and I have evidence myself. There is no way around it for Furniture Village.

Please send me the documentation I bought Bicast 'leather' sofa Max product id 989910779724 in Jan 2008. I was told this was genuine leather and bicast leather was better stronger than untreated leather Thanks

    Hiya :)

    Hi,
Thanks to this post have managed to get full refund.
Bought in 2005 and had lived with the problem using throws not even thinking of going back to FV. Only came across the thread after purchasing new sofa's so was about to dump old sofa's.

Taken various phone calls, letters to store and then letters to head office all in 4months to get the money but very happy, made it very clear only full refund was acceptable as had been offered half purchase price but they misold so gambled out of principle and it worked.

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has posted messages about the Scala sofa. I recently came across this thread and realised that the Scala sofa I bought from Furniture Village in 2007 is one of those miss-sold as real leather. I emailed Furniture Village's customer services to request a refund. They called me back and offered me a credit note for 50% of what I originally paid. I visited their shop to see if there was anything I wanted to buy and then called them back to say there was not and ask for a cheque instead. They said yes right away.
Thank you everyone on this post who alerted me to this.
Also, thank you Furniture Village for dealing with my request so reasonably.

    Wow!
I am so glad to read this thread!
greedy Furniture village, had they quietly refunded us then, when we asked them, they would not have had all this trouble he-he!
but they were greedy, unfair (in my personal opinion, of course), and look now they had to refund... and refund... and refund... This teaches dishonest companies that deceiving their customers can indeed prove dangerous in times of the internet.
guys, I am so happy for you, and so glad that our info has helped - hopefully everyone who has been deceived will get their money back!
long live the google :T;) and this forum:money:
  • :mad:Thought that we'd add our comments regarding our Scala sofa. Same problem as everybody else with horrendous peeling. The engineer visited us last Friday and we have just received a call from FV offering a £350.00 refund. They mentioned that as we had had the sofa for 3.5 years, wear and tear should be considered.
Husband explained that when you are missold an item such as this sofa, you are legally entitled to what you bought, eg, in our case LEATHER! Hence, we have rejected their offer and asked for a Leather sofa - The Dante. Will keep you updated on the next stage of our battle ;-)
  • Hi.

Thought that I'd update you on the current status.
Following the engineer's visit, we were offered £350.00 as a gesture of goodwill which was immediately rejected. Then, we were offered a credit of £794.00 against a FV product in store. Hmmmm - let me think! New sofa costs £899.00. New chair costs £399.00. That means we have got to cough up over £500 for a like for like product
So, we have now written again to the Store Manager and have rejected this latest offer asking for a like for like sofa at no cost. Watch this space....

I have just discovered this thread.

I have a 3 and 2 seater Mistrale "leather" sofa from Furniture Village that I bought in 2007. I originally bought it on a 0% finance deal and it was paid back a year (or maybe two years) later. I don't know if I still have any of the documentation regarding the purchase of the sofa and the original agreement but it is possible.

The "leather" has turned very peculiar over time (kind of a bobbly, criss-cross effect rather than peeling) and I assume this is down to it being bicast.

Does anyone have any advice as to whether I might be able to claim a refund/compensation, bearing in mind I'm not sure if I have the original receipts etc?

Thanks in advance for any help :)
