Faulty sofa from furniture village.

Hi all, I also have this sofa and after 5 years which was march this year the sofa started to blister and now looks awful as its getting worse. I didn't think I could do anything seen as it was over 5 years. This week I went to furniture village and told the salesman why we are replacing our sofa but slightly annoyed it has only lasted 5 years. He then said to be to lodge a complaint as they have had problems with this sofa and I may be able to get a fair bit of discount. I then came home and googled it and found this forum. I'm shocked that everyone else has had te same issues.
So from reading this just wanted to ask should I contact my local FV or go straight to head office?
Thanks.0 -
Sounds as though there is another problem going on here. An Aniline leather cannot delaminate as it has no surface coating that can peel. An Aniline leather is a dyed leather which is why they last longer than a finished (coated, protected) leather. They are also generally made from full grain leather rather than top grain which means they are a better quality to start with.
Hope this helps

Thanks for that have checked and this sofa/chair is Semi Aniline Leather. However I said "de-laminate" as was unsure how to describe the problem. But certainly the back cushion of the sofa is showing a black area underneath and the cushion of the chair has a spotted look as though a top coating is blistering.or pilling like a sweater as a new member has said Any thoughts?0 -
Bycast sold to us by FV was not split leather.
The "leather expert" may refer to some other form of bycast - but a split of leather with plastic on top would be rather called coated leather.
The thickness of FV bycast was approx 0.5 mm, including the plastic, which was about 3/4 of the thickness. It was not more than leather dust glued to the plastic. There can be no split leather layer as thin as 0.1mm, it is ridiculous.
If you are that experienced, why did FV get away with selling non-leather as leather for several years, and nobody spotted this, until our ordeal? Where have you been with your expertise all that time, dear experts?
Any FV customers can cut a piece out of their failing furniture cover and send to leather technology centre or to leather repairers - they can give their independent report.
:rotfl: The bottom line is: selling non-leather (by British leather standard) as leather and for leather prices is the same kind of offence as selling yellow metal as gold for the price of gold. :rotfl:
Hope this is O.K to attach to this thread but as I've followed your informative threads over the last couple of days since joining and have a problem with F.V I would appreciate some advice. I have been told by C.A.B todeal with this under the Sale of Goods Act 1979. As I used a credit card for purchase I can try to claim from there. Is there an official standered letter that that I can send to both F.V and the credit card company?
I would be most grateful for any help0 -

I wonder why CAB didn't suggest a Section 75 Claim against the credit card company?
Anyway, for sample letters, and other good stuff, you might like to read MSE's How to Complain article.
It may also be worth reading MSE's Section 75 Refunds article.
I am sure malchish will be along shortly to advise further.0 -
Very many thanks for the advice I'll continue with discussions with
F V. The link was most helpful and will use it if needed.
I have had a phone call from the Manager who is comming out to see the problem for himself. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\Further news later!0 -
Just to add that I have had a problem with the infamous Scala peeling. I asked for a full refund and was initially offered a small amount - however, when I researched the law and wrote them a two-page letter, the matter was referred to 'regional' management level. I have now accepted the original value of my purchase to reselect furniture from them. I am personally happy with this, although I still believe that what they have done is against the law - but for me, life is too short for a legal battle over some pieces of furniture.
In the interests of fairness, I must say that FV were polite, attentive and punctual throughout our communications.
Hope this helps.0 -
We too have the 2 seater and 3 seater Scala sofas and they have peeled. have dug out my paperwork and found that we bought them in Nov 2005. Called the store and was told that, as we are outside the 5 year warranty period, there is nothing they can do. Have taken the manager's name and will be writing a complaint letter and enclosing photos.
The only sticking point is that my invoice shows a "Bicast Leather Care Kit"!! But I won't mention that! I am certain that the sofas were advertised as leather and that's what we thought we were getting.0 -

Just found this forum and wondered if anyone knows if the Alexis suite falls into the same mis-description as the Scala suite? We bought at end of 2006 (delivered in 2007) and have the flaking/peeling symptoms. Must admit I hadn't followed up with Furniture Village due to the length of time, but had thought leather would last longer than 5-6 years.
I have the original invoice (and nothing else), but it doesn't mention leather, however, we're convinced we were being sold leather otherwise we'd have chosen something else.
Should we get the "leather" tested to confirm what it really is, or does someone actually know?
Any advice gratefully received.
Thanks very much0 -
Hello there people, another FV customer here !
I have an IDAHO suite, a two seater and two single seaters, bought in October last year and recently the two seater started to suffer from this delamination that i have seen posted here. I called the shop and they sent out a chap to have a look and he blamed hair products for this happening (Oh i forgot to say, the damage is on the back just behind my head). My wife informs him that i do not use hair products as i am practically bald, so his next comment was that it was in fact the oils from my skin that were causing the problems.
Has anyone had any trouble with the IDAHO suite or been given the same excuse i have ? Any help would be greatly appreciated as i would like to remain calm when i speak to FV again.
Thanks.
Edit..... done some digging and its a semi aniline sofa, according to someone i spoke to an hour ago it should not delaminate like it has0
