This is interesting, I must spend some time reading his thread as I have just posted about my FV sofa collapsing. It has cracked and rubbed in places too though, I remember being slightly disappointed by rubbing damage on the back of it after about a year, maybe less, but it was in a high traffic area, so thought it was our own fault. The seat has cracked in a few places, it's not hugely noticeable thoug, and I thought it was because I hadn't taken good enough care of the leather. I cam't remember the names of the suite though.
  • Hi all if it wasn't for this thread i wouldn't be sitting on my new sofa so thank you!! We bought scala sofa 2 x 2 seater 1 chair and footstool in 2007. We bought it online after trying it out in the shop, on day of arrival delivery men scratched my new oak floor, bent the door handle on upvc front door!! (from pushing the sofa through). knocking the newly plastered walls!! As you can imagine we wasn't happy. The sofas looked ok but 1 of the 2 seaters wasn't the same height and the seat part was larger than other 2 seater. So we were on the phone asap. They did come 6 weeks later to replace one of the 2 seaters so i was happy.

Then year later the arms on the sofa had dents in them!! As you slipped on it when u were sat on it you needed to pull yourself up and use the arms. So we rang them again and they sent someone out to replace the insides. I still wasn't happy as they stood out more than others did but i thought i was being picky. As the sofas aged they started to peel!! and crease in places and then you could see black underneath!! Last straw was over xmas last year when sofas were 4 years old and it finally ripped on the one of the seats. Which you can imagine after 4 years of slipping off the things you would stretch the leather.

Last xmas i thought id look on ebay to see if i could replace the one sofa just so it looked more reasonable and found ones on ebay looked just a bad. Don't get me wrong i have 3 kids and look after my sofa so i knew it wasn't from how we looked after it. Then found this, After new year straight on the phone to fv and guess what they tried to fob us off but we were insistant something was done. They agreed to send bloke out to look at the damage. He said material was from china and it would cost too much to replace what needed doing! Chair, footstall and one of the 2 seaters was the worst. After chasing them after 2 weeks they said they would give us £800 towards new sofa!! we declined and said no they said with the use of 4 years wear and tear thats all they would offer. we then said we wanted to take it higher but they said they were still waiting for quote off the bloke. Then another 2 weeks went by and finally they said they could'nt get their hands on the material and would replace the lot for £180 so we agreed even tho we thought it was them selling non 100% leather. Had to wait another 3 weeks for conformation on delivery and then thought at that point they would ask for £180! but they never did lol. Sofa was delivered jut before we moved house in August and its the dante which i soo much better even tho they did take the feet off old sofas. We have full 5 year cover too and happy so far with them. It had taken 7 months of chasing and phones calls but it was well worth it. So dont give up. xx

are they giving you these refunds and collecting the suites?

I accepted 50% on ours as I kept the sofa's as we had puppies at the time and wasnt really bothered if they had the odd chew or not...

We'll be replacing ours soon, the mainly used sofa is pretty bad now...
  • Hi just found these posts. I bought the scala 2 & 3 seater sofas in 2006 and mine has peeled away too, even one I never really sit on. My wife and I are 100% sure that we thought we were buying real leather rather than a sprayed gunk sofa.

I have looked online to see if I could find the original advert but only managed to find one which was published in 2006. The ad states 100% leather but does say in the small print 'finest coated brown leather'. When it comes to miss selling would this advert be good evidence?

I would happily email the PDF for anyone who wants it. Please email me.

    Cheers

    Kev

you don't need the leaflet, I got a 50% refund and kept the sofa just off a phone call saying I was sold a sofa with a leather kitemark attached and it clearly isn't leather...

Just because it has a coated surface which has been sprayed on does not mean that it is not leather - the coatings sometimes I fail particularly if the leather is not protected and cleaned on a regular basis. There are British Standard definitions of what is leather if anyone needs a definition let me know as I have the British and European Standards.
    Hope this helps

    Judyb,

You keep saying this over and over, you keep claiming you know alot about leather.

What you don't know is how we were sold these sofa's six years ago. You weren't in the shops and you didn't pay my bill for me.

FV were pulled up for this, that is the reason why FV are providing these refunds.

You might know alot about leather, but you don't know alot about this situation...

As I have said I can help when it comes to proving what type of leather it is and have handled a lot of these cases - if you were clearly mis sold the items as leather and they are not then there is a clear case to answer. Simply trying to help consumers with their rights that's all.
    Hope this helps

  • Hi, We are currently also in dispute with FV over peeling Scala bicast "leather" sofas. Have rejected their current offer and currently seeking legal advice. It's proving difficult to get any information from Trading Standards about the ruling over this issue back in 2008/09 which was mentioned previously and FV being particularly guarded. If anyone has successfully claimed against them past the six year deadline I would love to receive information from you on how you managed this. Please post any help or advice you can give me. Of course, as this range was on special offer in 2006 or perhaps even earlier then many people will be hindered by the SOGA six year deadline. FV obviously feel protected by this now.
I will, of course, post my outcome on this Forum. Thanks in advance for any help.
