OS Daily Thread - Valentines Day

Good afternoon everyone, and to those lucky enough to have one I hope you are taking good care of your Valentines and spoiling them.Today would have been my 47th wedding anniversary, so its a bit of a bittersweet day for me
My late OH always made a special fuss as he was a great romantic ( a bit of a big old softie really) I still have all the cards he gave me, and although we never quite made our Ruby wedding I still can remember as though it was yesterday our wedding day .We were freezing cold as the winter weather was awful in 1963 (not much change there then )I was a skinny size eight (huge change there;)) and we were very broke, and along with my brother and sis-in-law we managed to scrape up enough for steak and chips for the four of us, it cost £9.00, almost a weeks wages back then. My brother had borrowed a camera from his Pa-in-law to take some photos, but forgot to check if there was any film in it.There I was an a very short matching mini dress and coat, on probably the coldest day of the year, standing on the steps of the registery office. My knees were blue with cold and were knocking . I had known him for 43 days and everyone said I was nuts. But I knew he was the one for me, and it was the best thing I ever did in my life (apart from having my two daughters).
Jackie, what a lovely story, bought a lump to my throat
, you have such a way with words, I am sure your dear hubbie would be so proud of you xxx
Hugs to you and all those who have lost someone xx
Just popped on really to say thanks you to Sunnygirl :T I used this (scroll down a bit) recipe for my yorkshires today and for the first time ever they did not come out like cricket balls :T they were perfect, and so easy, so huge thanks xx0 -
Aww does he not show you he loves you in other ways though?I hate the commercialism of VD and never send cards, but if I have a special someone in my life, show love every day by the way I am, and the things I do for them;):DAm I the only woman (in a relationship) in the Universe, who did not get absolutely ANYTHING no flowers no chocolate no tacky knickers, absolutely sweet FA for Valentine's day? Am feeling very sad and despondent!"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Thats exactly how I felt on Mothers day last year when I got zilch so I know how you feel. (((hugs)))
I've done all the downstairs windows(using water, vinegar and newspaper), sewed patches on the elbows of DS1s workjumper and am washing his uniform. The men all had cheese toasties for lunch(HM bread:)) and a slice of HM cake :)washing was dried outside and is airing now on the airers so a nice OS day for me.
JackieO - your memories of today also brought a tear to my eye xDo what you love :happyhear0 -

Hi BB- in the Mail on Sun the lady in question takes a tablespoon of each in hot water.
She said she noticed a difference in 2 weeks,so its worth a go.
We haven't got any,so DH will have to wait till I go to the shops tomorrow or Tuesday.(Bet he complains about the taste though :rotfl:)
Anguk- fab news to hear Martyn is home.:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0 -
Yey, flat is now clean and tidy! :j Floors hoovered and mopped, kitchen spotless, everything tidied away. Just got to do the bathroom, but need to dye my hair tonight or tomorrow so will clean it after that as it's bound to get everywhere! :rotfl:
I'm going to prep dinner now. I caramelised onions earlier and will make a tart, roast spuds and peas.
I'm watching Grease at the moment. I had Mamma Mia on whilst tidying so felt like continuing the musical theme

Thank you all for your replies, I have now talked it over with him, it is not his fault, I am confused by my own reaction, I have always said that I don't want a fuss and he just took me to my word (fatal mistake, blokes, take note! LOL)!
We tried to book a film and restaurant but the film was fully booked so we decided we will do our own alternative Valentine tomorrow, when we will go to watch Food, Inc. for free in exchange for distributing leaflets at the end of the show (arranged ages ago with the Soil Association) and then we will go for a meal. It is going to be a lot more fun and less crowded than today.
All is well what's end well and I am happy again! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Afternoon all :0)
Sat on the countdown to getting my babies back from their trip to Newcastle with their dad, hoping Logan is in a better mood than when he left yesterday telling me 'he hated me' I know he's only 4 and doesn't really mean it and was just lashing out because i told him off for pulling the cats tail, but with dh and i newly seperated etc it cut me to the bone and i had to leave the room with a tear in my eye!
Anyway, cooked a roast today and at the moment of typing have my first ever meringues in the oven, wish me luck on this :rotfl:
Am going to follow them with scones and fairy cakes later as the kids are on half term and i really have no money to buy them treats.
JackieO what a wonderful story which made me shiver.
Caterina, glad you sorted it out and glad you went for the talking approach, me i'd have just hit him over the head with something hard
Ang, :T what brilliant news and so glad he is home, don't think he will ever be able to top this valentines day in years to come
Bitsy, do you want to explain, or from now on everytime i read a post from you do i need to imagine you in a fairy outfit? :rotfl:I will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)
Card #2 £6. I will not be skint at Chistmas this year!
Total £560 -
Hi everyone. Nothing OS today. OH bought me some chocs and sweets but no card.....he thought you only bought cards when you were a secret admirer...bless!!! We're having M&S dine in meal tonight. We've been for a nice long walk this afternoon, about 12 miles, and had a picnic of BLT sandwiches in HM bread, crisps and HM dorset apple cake. Yummy!!!0

Hi everyone - I have never posted on a daily thread before, but have been touched by the way you all seem to know each other intimately!! I have been to work today (2nd job as OH out of work for 14 months). We have exchanged cards and little pressies and OH is serving dinner which he has made. JackieO you made be smile with a tear, if that makes sense. Hope you all enjoy the remainder of the day cards/pressies/whatever enjoy. Billie xx:j I belong to Mike's Mob :j0
