Were looing to offer a house share for a single mother and her daughter

  • I personally would just witdraw the offer and tell her to go to the council, they will have to house her once she is actually homeless as she is in a priority need, ok so it might be temp accomodation but all this renting one room off a family with a 2 year old in tow imo just seems a bit silly.
The child most importantly needs some stability, not to be passed from home to home when the mother can just as well get them into secure accomodation with the council sooner rather than later.

He won't do that as he won't get his hard cash this way.

It's getting more and more difficult for people to even REGISTER an application for housing with our local authority. All the staff there have orders (and I do mean orders) to repel anyone coming along to do so. The last thing they are likely to do is give you any reason to register - even if you are homeless - and they will do and say the most outrageous things to turn people away. So my advice would be to take anything they say with a ton of salt, not just a pinch. Go to your local Citizens' Advice, or advise the young woman to go (she's not a girl, by the way). She will be told there precisely what the law says regarding obtaining long-term suitable housing for herself and her child.
