Agreed, but using aliEnRIK's MAC code suggestion just adds that extra layer of security.

A 63 character password would not be cracked in the next 1,000,000 years. Even if MAC code filtering were effective as a security layer it adds nothing.

"MyBestFriendIsEbay" is memorable and very strong as a password.

No it isn't, unless you change some characters for numbers/symbols ie

    myb3stfr!endi$3bay

Dictionary attacks will focus on complete words, so no matter how long it is, if it is a known word it will eventually be hacked.

Check to see your router isn't using WEP, and at a minimum is WPA (WPA should be standard on all routers by now, but some aren't).

Make sure your router password has been changed from the usual "admin "admin" user/password.

Download something like hijackthis or a spyware program and see what is running on your pc.

    Change your ebay/paypal passwords.

Stay off dodgy pron sites that install spyware/keyloggers on your pc.

Nobody has suggested the possibility of remote control software yet?

Do you ever leave your computer on online for long periods of time while you are away? It's less likely than the other possibilities, but a possibility none the less.

Would a door chain stop a burgler getting in?? of course not, but that doesn't mean they are pointless.

Of course it does. If unauthorised access is not prevented it has not served its purpose.

So you are saying a door chain is impenetrable by burglars??

My example is not a complete dictionary word but does consist of at least 4 dictionary word. A 1000 word dictionary would have to test for 5 words in the phrase. That's 1000 to the power of 5 possibilities. At 100 tries per second I'll leave it to you to work out long it would take.

Use **MyBestFriendIsEbay if it worries you.

No, I'm agreeing with you it is not. But, unlike you, I'm saying that that makes it pointless to use for burglary prevention.

    MAC codes can be sniffed.

    This makes you totally invisible?

So your saying to not bother at all?
