Hi,
I logged on to ebay to find to my surprise, that I was apparently selling a used car....
It is not my car, not my listing, so I contacted ebay immediately. After spending ages on their online chat support thing, (and being cut off half way through! they told me that there was no evidence my account had been tampered with, and it must have been listed by someone in my house, as it was from my IP address...
However, I was here, at home, alone, using the computer, at the very time it was listed. I know no one here listed the car!
I tried to edit the listing to make people aware, but I was unable to delete or amend the title of the listing, or the main text.
Ebay have eventually deleted the listing and advised me to change passwords...
Has anyone else seen/experienced this? I did spot a completed listing which seemed to be the same thing last week, conincidentially just before the non existant car was listed via my profile. (this is the one I spotted, not the one that was listed via my account)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1986-Black-VW-...item414cd8b018
I know it is a scam, but how have they done it? Why does it look like the listing was posted from my computer? Could it be viral/spyware? How can I prevent it happening again?
thanks in advance,
fc

I would ask your question on the eBay community boards as well.0

Why not contact the police and give them the reg plate etc:idea:0

Are you sure eBay have this right that the IP address to list the auction is yours?
As each IP address is unique then the only way it could happen unless I'm wrong is that the auction was listed from your computer or your router was accessible.
I would ask on the eBay boards, either the motoring or Q&A boards to see if anyone else has had this problem.
I would scan your computer, what security do you have set up?0 -
my wireless is secure, I am using kaspersky (and firewall)- I have also asked over on the ebay board!0

the listing is just ripped off from a (presumably genuine) listing which is currently on ebay - they have used their photos, and most of their wording.
I presume they are selling a non existent car (well, not non existent, but not in their possession IYSWIM) to try and get someone to send funds before receiving the goods (which they will never receive) - much like many of the online puppy selling scams. (these work by getting people to send money up front for transport, but the pup is never sent, as it never really existed)0 -
Which ISP are you with?
Not AOL is it?0 -

Might be worth your while downloading Malwarebytes from filehippo.com and running a scan just in case.
Download the latest version and update it first before scanning.0
