  • So has anyone else jumped on the Kylie-Ponds-cold-cream bandwagon then!? My Twitter feed has been buzzing with reports of Kylie's £3.99 beauty secret over the last few days, and since I wasn't overly impressed with my current cleanser I thought I'd give it a go. I used it last night and this morning, and I'm quite impressed so far. The way I use it is to rub about a 5p size blob in, then wipe off with cotton wool, but you can use it with a hot cloth if you prefer. My skin was so clean after, and felt lovely and soft. I followed with toner as I have combination skin and there was a slight residue, but if you have normal or dry skin, or just want to skip night cream that wouldn't be necessary. It also came with a £1 off voucher for next time, so that's good!

It can be used as hand cream as well. I put some on at bedtime as my hands have been a bit dry lately, and woke up to soft, moisturised hands with no dry patches - I love a multi-tasking product!!
secondly a good facial moisturiser to replace my usual Clarins Multi-Active cream? At £37 a pot I just can't bring myself to spend that much anymore! I have dry/sensitive skin and like a cream rather than a lotion.

    Thanks all! :)

I posted earlier in this thread about L'oreal Youth Code, which is very nice, and I think they've been swapping information with Lancome (who they own) so it's not quite such a step down from Clarins!! It often has £5 off too, so it's under £10 usually. Not sub-£5 I know, but not too bad for moisturiser! Their Derma-Genesis range is nice too.

I have been looking for a new eye makeup remover recently and I tried Boots own Fragrance Free Eye Make Up recommended on here but I didn't get on with it too well, too creamy for me (i gave it to my mum and she likes it). I normally use the Botanics one but I find it doesn't go too far and I have to buy a new one quite often.

So I bought the boots own cucumber gel eye make up remover and because I had run out of toner too I got the whole range (about £1.30 an item) - Cleanser, toner, eyemakeup remover, eye gel and moisturiser lotion and I love all of it!! My skin is pretty normal (not too dry, not too oily) and I have been using this every night for a week now and my skin is great, noticably plumper rather than going greasy. I have been massaging my face with the cleanser (which I wash off rather than remove with cotton wool as this pulls my skin less) and it looks so much better. In the morning I now just wash my face with my botanics pore refining foam (which I still love and stocked up on in poundland from the 'pure' range) and apply the superdrug natural radiance balm and my skin looks and feels lovely.

Thank you all so much for this great thread, I would never have thought to search out really cheap products as I thought that they wouldn't care for my skin as much. I now have a great and cheap skin care routine and I have really enjoyed the challenge of finding and testing cheaper products along the way!

I have also bough the superdrug coconut and almond shampoo and conditioner (99p each or two for £1.50 at the moment) and they have the added bonus of making my hair so smooth and shiney that putting serum etc just makes it greasy so I am saving on hair products now as they are not needed!

I had the same problem as you, bought the Boots Own Fragrance Free Eye Makeup Remover and my eyes actually stung after using it. I'll possibly use it up but I did get a Clinique eye makeup remover recently to get GWP.

My own fave Boots bargain used to be their Fragrance Free 2-in-1 Cleanser and Toner (in similar packaging to the Cucumber range) - this was brilliant, nice clinical scent but never broke me out and always cleansed really deep down and removed all makeup etc and Boots often did 3-4-2's of it. But they seem to have discontinued it now and I don't really like their cucumber range.

I'm thinking of using (as someone suggested here) the Johnsons Baby Lotion as m/u remover again, I used it as a student and left my skin silky soft, no breakouts etc.

A haircare range everyone and their dog (joke) whom I know seems to be using is Schwarzkopf Gliss Hair Repair Liquid Silk Gloss Shampoo and Conditioner. You can always find this for £1 each in Poundland.

My all time fave concealor is Boots Natural Collection CoverUp Cream it comes in medium and fair and costs £1.99. I used to use a Revlon similar one (discontinued) and others and I searched for absolutely ages (including high end brands) until I found this. I just like the liquid/cream feel and sponge applicator. Most other concealors are cream stick forms.

I'd love to find a good illuminating cream foundation - I did use a great one by Dior but they discontinued it.

Can anybody recommend a couple of cheap replacements to my ususal expensive products?

The first is Kiehls Creme de Corps body lotion which is the only thing I've found that makes my skin look so good.

and secondly a good facial moisturiser to replace my usual Clarins Multi-Active cream? At £37 a pot I just can't bring myself to spend that much anymore! I have dry/sensitive skin and like a cream rather than a lotion.

No idea about the Kiehls (if you know anyone going to US just ask them to buy some for you, you should save a tiny bit as exchange rate still about $1.50 to £1.

what's actually in your Clarins cream? does it have an SPF? I did used to like the Sanctuary spf15 day cream, until they changed the formula.

Kylie's beauty secret, don't make me laugh, :rotfl:her *natural beauty* is all down to botox and maybe an early facelift, i'd swear she has fillers too. Another journalist (in Reveal magazine) was bemoaning the lack of celebs who *haven't* had facelifts/botox this week so no sour grapes from me.

I do use Ponds night-time moisturisers though, they either have Evening Primrose oil or /and Vit E in them and whichever I've used they're very moisturising and dead cheap (can't recall price offhand).

I don't actually believe any anti-ageing claims from any product - it's all down to genetics and how much sun damage you get, despite all the bold claims the wonder products invariably make!! Thankfully I have good genes from my family! :D

But the 'Kylie effect' brought my attention to a previously overlooked product and when I looked into it found it had a LOT of good reviews. It won't make you look younger, but it's an amazing cleanser! And that's why I bought it. Can't speak for all the others who've contributed to a 120% increase in sales! (crazy what a celeb endorsement will do!!)

Can any of you out there help me overcome my Liz Earle Superbalm addiction for my nails and cucticles to something much more longer lasting and cheaper! I am determined not to buy anymore from Q*C.

Plus any good cheap mascaras recommendations that stay in place and don't migrate down my face by the end of the day now my favourite by Prescriptives have ended since the company closed.

I've tried really hard to overcome my beauty addiction and I'm determined to not give in to spending more when less will more than do!

Didn't know Prescriptives had closed, I'm shocked at that! Not cheap-cheap, but I imagine cheaper than Prescriptives, Boots No.7 360• mascara is my favourite. Gives good volume and stays extremely well!! I'm currently using Boots 17 Infinite Lash, which IS cheap, and is probably my second favourite! I would just say though, I have found that the staying power of my mascara directly relates to the eye makeup remover I use. I spent years thinking I needed waterproof mascara, but since I found my perfect non-greasy eye makeup remover (Boots Botanics if you're interested!) ALL mascara lasts a full day! Just an observation!

    Thanks for the tip, glittery!

I was shocked about prescriptives closing too - Estee Lauder shut it down in Jan - shame

    Rugbygirl27,

I have dry/sensitive skin too and the best facial moisturiser I have used is Liz Earle's skin repair moisturiser for dry.sensitive skin. £17 for 50 ml. I have used this for years.
