Were the toms out in the cold this whole time? Err.....they just got cold.
Mine have been struggling with the cold too.
You been opening the greenhouse during the day so they aired right? And maybe a splash of seaweed feed will perk them up but i'm guessing the late frost last week might have done some damage unless you've protected them well.0 -

Could be some good advice here.
All my plants have remained in my pvc greenhouse since they were planted. There have been some days where I've opened the zips/doors. It is only recently (ie this week) that the doors have been opened for prolonged periods.
I've been wondering if the cold weather & the prolonged winter is having a knock on effect. Some of my plants (especially the cucumbers) seem to be a little behind in development? In addition, it felt like a number of the plants took forever to germinate. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

I do have a suspicion that it may be temperature related. They started off indoors, and I planted them out into the greenhouse on 17th April. We then had a couple of weeks of lovely warm weather, followed by a really cold snap, down to about 2°C at night.
I'm still praying for recovery. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I thought I'd chuck out the dead beans ready to replace them with new.
Can someone tell me why my dead beans are still growing? :rotfl:Can't quite believe it - there's new growth coming out of them in all sorts of places. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Those look like healthy vigorous bean plants to me. Well done! :T
Don't worry about the paper-like old leaves at the bottom of the plant - I just pick those off. It's the roots that count, not what it looks like.

Well, I dunno about healthy and vigorous - they were until I put them outside about 2 days before the last frost.
It killed all the foliage, and I thought it was all over for them. Apparently not.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Not quite dead, as you can see. If these were too cold or frosted the cells of the leaves might have been damaged and the plant would 'choose' not to struggle to keep them.
When plants are under stress, lack of water, cold etc they will do everything they can to survive. A plant might get rid of it's leaves so it all it's efforts go into the root system; a more mature plant might flower and set seed (radishes, lettuces etc bolt) as fast as it can.
