Got a decent downpour in the small hours last night, but otherwise lovely weather.
This is probably the prettiest thing I've ever grown:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Looks like everything coming along nicely for you. So far I've had several Radishes from the Garden, some Rocket, some salad leaves and some chives for my potato salad, also had quite a lot of Rhubarb. Just waiting for everthing else but enjoying all the planting out.:D"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

You going soft on us?;)
Wasn't aware of any rain overnight (I have 2 jobs & was at work late last night) however there was some rain today. Enough for a good watering, though over the weekend I haven't experienced the downpour or thunderstorms the forecasters said to expect...
I'm confused too in that nothing in my garden is flowering yet...Even my hanging baskets.
However, I did notice yesterday that my lilies are coming through again:jIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

It's related. It's my potato. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

 That's a potato!?
I need to grow a greater variety.
At least the amount of rain we've had will have done the garden good MrBE.
My greenhouse is now overfloating!
Think I planted too much!
Have been enjoying eating my lettuce (first batch, halfway through it, 2nd batch already needs harvesting & third batch planted...)
Sprouts & brocolli all out now. Need to plant out the courgette plants. Will need to plant out the cucmbers soon (not quite big enough yet...)
But the best news of all, is that 2 tomato plants have their first flowers on! :j
Weekend will be busy - lawns need doing after all the rain, plus I need to plant out the courgettes, & sort out the sheer multitude of tomato plants everywhere! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
I have been following this thread with interest as this is our first year of growing things.
So far I have 10 tomatoes in the green house all with at least one if not two sets of flowers, also 5 cucumbers which between them have 14 cucumbers developing at the moment but i can see more coming, and also 10 chilli plants although these are nowhere near as big as yours MBE, and lots of lettuce.
Outside i have more tomatoes, although further behind, green beans, courgettes, spring onions, 2 types of carrots, beetroot, basil, parsley, garlic, peas and butternut squash. All apart from the courgettes are doing well, they seem to have been attaked and all but 2 have died off.
The wild garlic has now also died off but that is at the end of its season.
I also have in ready for winter sprouts and leeks, although the birds got a few of my sprouts before I put netting over.
This afternoon I have dug up the gooseberry bush and de-weeded it, then cut back all the dead growth and re-planted it with a good layer of compost in the bottom; there was one solitary goosegog on it. (I was given this approx 4 years ago and just stuck it in the ground and left it)
I also have rhubarb which is prolifick in its growth. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

just take to take all my gh staging out because the tomatoes (13 plants) have grown too big, also have 11 sweet pepper plants in. So they are all now on the ground - what a waste of money for staging when I could have used old boxes etc. Hope the tomatoes dont think they are going to grow out of the greenhouse. My friend says they are like triffids. They are just about 2 sets of flowers on them and have read to pinch the top off when they have 6/7 sets of flowers on.
I have read that you can take all lower leaves off under flowers, started to do this with one but got frightened and left the rest just in case I kill them. Anyone else done this with success?Look after the pennys and the pounds will look after themselves:money:0 -

I only remove the older leaves when they start to turn yellow. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
I'm only in my 2nd year of growing, but I don't pinch the leaves on my plants. I let nature take its course (unless the leaves are dying).
Bought a couple of slug traps - put them out already.
I've planted out my courgette plants.
The beans are strting to climb their nets! Looking good there.
I have a few (small number) of flowers on my tomato plants. More will come I'm sure.
My cucumber plants appear to be going well. Fingers crossed.
With the weekend downpour on sunday I got no grass cut.:o I thought the dry weather fri/sat/sun would make it cuttable. The rain has removed that option. I'm having to wait until wednesday or thursday now. Possibly longer. Rain is forecast for friday (hope not - supposed to be playing golf:eek:).It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
