Anyone know what sort of radish this is?
It's from a budget range pack of "mixed radishes". Some I recognise as French Breakfast, others are the more familiar round ones. But I like this coz it's massive.
Wondered if it might be a young mooli? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
My courgette plants have little courgettes growing :j
I can see brocolli florets on my brocolli plants :j
My beans are growing, & flowers have appeared :j
This weekend, I will be planting out my cucumber plants, & doing a lot of weeding.
Does anyone know when you harvest the courgettes? Apparently if you keep picking them in time you will get many more.
Also, when & how do I harvest the brocolli florets? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
It could be a daikon radish, specifically April Cross which Wikipedia describes as "smooth white roots" and "elongated"

I'd be thinking about 4-5" for nice tender courgettes. Anything much bigger than that and they're a bit tough, IIRC. I'm not a fan of courgettes, but grew some years ago. They ended up like marrows because I didn't like 'em enough to keep eating them.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Thanks Liz, that's what I was thinking (mooli / daikon are pretty much interchangeable as far as I can see). It is milder than the others. I wonder how big it would have got if I hadn't been hungry - some of the mooli I've seen have been bigger than parsnips. :eek:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
The new bed is now edged, thanks to the (legitimate!) acquisition of some nice 9" x 2" planks:
Makes the first one look a bit ropy I think! :rotfl:
I've put stakes in so that the walking-stick kale can be supported as it grows to competition-winning height (probably about a foot, if our previous attempts are anything to go by!) I wanted to get the stakes in soon after planting out, so that I don't have to disturb the roots later. I'm hoping my mate:
a) Will not remember to get the stakes in early, so he upsets his plants by hammering them in through the roots.
b) Remembers to water mine when I'm on holiday the week after next.
c) Doesn't read this thread. :rotfl:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
And despite the initial fears for my tomatoes, each of the 5 varieties are well on their way:
Kumato:
Orange banana:
Amish Paste:
Purple Ukraine (well, I thought so, but now suspect it might be a mislabelled Amish Paste):
Millefleur:
Can't wait, though I suspect my mate will get the first ones whilst I'm on holiday. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Thanks Mr BE.:T I have heard that they do produce a lot of produce! I am a little concerned that I'll be giving a hell of a lot of them away, but hey ho!
I am envious of your tomatoes. I still only have flowers on mine - & some plants I am waiting for the flowers to appear! That said, I have staggered the planting of them...;)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Your tomatoes ook briliant, Ive just got flowers on so far but up to 3 sets on each plant, had to take some out of the gh because wasnt enough room for them all. Does anyone know if this is ok.
Just noticed my pepper plants have tiny sweet peppers on :j:j:j Ive got 10 plants as I think peppers are expensive so the more the merrier, have to freeze them for the winter. Just had my first home grown strawberry and I now realise I had forgotten how strawberrys should taste:) waiting for my raspberries and bueberries now. My cherry tree has no cherrys on at all as the last one dropped off a couple of days ago, dont know why!!!!
Apple trees have loads of tiny apples on, just hope they taste ok. Been eating my home grown lettuce for weeks now and woudnt want to go back to buying the crap they sell in the supermarkets.Look after the pennys and the pounds will look after themselves:money:0 -

Can't see a problem with it - pick a sunny, sheltered spot if you can. I've got about half a dozen plants outside, because the greenhouse is full.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
