We should have combined our efforts. We'd have had two.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Well I finally got around to mowing the lawns!:o Actually the length og the grass means they'll need doing again very soon. It is actually more a case that I thinned the grass out.:D
Kirsty, isn't it great seeing the progress! I repotted my brocolli a few weeks ago, it seems to be doing well (though I've never grown it before!) I have a lot of sprout plants doing ok. I was shocked to realise I have 29 cucumber plants on the go. The courgettes appear in good spirits. What has really suprised me is the runner beans. Boy they grow quickly! I'm wondering how long before I need to set up the bamboo canes & plant them outside anyone?
My 2nd & 3rd batches of tomatoes are poking through now. My lettuce is improving (so I've planted a second batch of this too).
I've run out of suitable pots!:( Need to go and buy some cheap pots, especially for next year...
I've also decided that I'll have a go at growing some peppers next year. 'n not a fan, but the family are, & it is something new again.
MrBE, rain & coldness is forecast round us this weekend. A high of 10 degrees is forecast...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Did a spot more garden tidying over the weekend. Compost bins are full (gave them a good stir). Didn't do much with me dinner plants other than watering.
Noticed that some of my brocolli & sprouts plants are growing.
My first batch of tomato seeds have really come into their own. The 2nd & third batches are now sprouted & will be repotted next bank holiday.
Beans are really growing fast!
Courgettes have started further development following being potted after their time in the trays. Cucumbers were a little after, so waiting for them to start catching up.
Chives appear to be thickening out...
Can't help but feel my lettuce are being a little slow. I thought they'd have come on a bit more than they have so far.
Frosts are forecast for some nights this week. I am glad I haven't planted stuff out yet! It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Away this weekend. Made the mistake of planting my runner beans out, which have duly been [STRIKE]killed[/STRIKE] maimed and injured (see below) by the frost.
Oh well, best plant a few more. I think I'm still ahead of last year anyway.
Chillis are doing great, plenty of flowers and the first signs of fruit. :j
Still lots to do....If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Sorry to hear that.:(
On my walk to work this morning I was contemplating whether or not I really should've planted stuff out by now. I'd originally planned to do that mayday bank hol weekend, but felt the plants were too fragile/weather wasn't good enough. Generally I'm glad I didn't.
My beans are huge (grown v fast!). The sprouts & Brocolli are going well. These are the ones to be planted out first (I also need the pots they are in) & I plan to do this bank holiday weekend (2 weeks from now).
I'll also be moving my cucumbers, courgettes, tomatoes into larger pots at this time too, creating space in the greenhouse.
My first lettuce is starting to look good, & the 2nd batch has sprouted. I'll be planting a 3rd batch very soon (mainly as I wanna start eating it...).
Mr BE, weather forecast this week is warmer as the week goes on, some showers, risk of storms at the weekend.
I must remember to ensure the greenhouse gets opened every morning!
PS I'd post pictures if I wasn't a complete luddite!;)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
Spuds seem to be going well:
Got some flower buckets from Morrisons to pot on my chillies:
Just in the nick of time by the looks of it:
That one's about 20" tall. Lack of success in previous years is clearly due to leaving them in fiddling little pots.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Gooseberries are looking good:
At least on this bush anyway - the one I moved isn't faring so well, but that's kind of understandable. Touch wood, no sign of the sawfly returning. Yet.
The rhubarb's typically unstoppable:
:j
Stuff in tubs is going well, especially the radishes (bottom right).
I didn't make any attempt to thin them out, but I shall start doing so by eating the biggest. Some are looking rather good - way better than last year's woeful efforts.
(Not a great photo but it wasn't around long enough for me to take another.)

But there's always a downside, and so far it's my tomatoes. I'm not happy because they're the ones I want most!
The first lot I put out are really struggling.Upward growth has almost halted, the stems have thickened, and the foliage is shrivelled and curled. There's a distinct purple colouring to them too. I can see no signs of insect damage. I've been careful about the watering. Any suggestions would be very gratefully received:
The second lot I put in the greenhouse a few weeks later are as yet unaffected. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
The white beetroot are making slow progress:
The frost killed the beans, but it doesn't really matter. I should still have plenty of time to get them in - I have another lot planted ready. I guess on the whole, things are ok, but I'm really concerned about those tomatoes. If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Some good progress being made Mr BE. However I'm at a loss with your tomatoes I'm afraid! Not seen it before - this is only my 2nd year at this:o
My beans are going great guns - I plan to start putting stuff in the ground from this weekend. They will go out when I've got some canes. I've planned where to put my sprouts & brocolli too.
The courgettes are coming along nicely, however my cucumbers apper to be very slow...:( One or 2 of them have sadly faltered & will not go any further (I tried to rescue them to no avail:()
Lettuce is coming along though! Will have to put it on the sandwiches soon:)
Really need to do some digging at some point to sort the ground out...It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0
