I dont think this has truely been answered yet! YES it does play Xvid codec!! i just got one of these DVD's today, just watching an Xvid movie now! Divx is no way as good as Xvid & it plays them baby! well happy! Justed plugged my Flashtrax PVP into it via the USB, it's playing films with NO probs! Hope this clears up and resolves a few things.

can anyone confirm that it can read Xvid with Qpel and GMC
I reckon it can but I only tested one file from divx test cd2 downloaded from net that has files on that you can test your divx player. its 650mb download thoug.

Anyway I am on 2 minds here the card and usb reader great but ff rew really make me return than I think where else can I get a divx player that has 3 years warranty.

Bought one of these this morning and have just finished playing round with it. I bought the player as a direct replacement for my existing Tevion (silver/mirrored front) which I bought from Aldi around 2years ago which came with 5.1 Speakers...swap the player/keep the speakers.

My comments would be that the player itself feels quite cheap compared to my existing Tevion player... more of a plastic feel. I turned the player on and the Screen Saver (which is not 100% sharp) is not Tevion but Akura as mentioned on this thread. When turned on the player makes a quick buzzing noise in all speakers which is strange and quite loud coming from the SubWoofer.

When I put a DVD in the player, there is a lot of low digital grinding noise heard from the speakers as the disc is being read. The disc plays fine, though another criticism would be the volume - the range starts from zero with 1 being the first audible volume and even at this level it is very loud!

USB and SD slots work fine, but again I could hear the digital crunching noise again when reading from these sources.

Al in all, I was impressed and drawn to the player because of the features and price, and after buying and setting this up and am disappointed and will be returning to Aldi. I'm very interested to understand other people's opinion on the actual playback in particular and volume to see if my player is a one-off.

    HTH.

I already have a targa divx player i brought from aldi but i,m considering buying this for the usb facilty so i can use my gericom ext hardrive and archos.

Cant fault my targa as it is of excellent build quality with memory card facility and play almost all the files i have burnt and would have been satisfied if it came with usb connection. Need some advice on whether it plays files via usb without any problems and would you recommend it?
  • This machine will play files from an external HDD connected via USB as long as the drive has its own power source and is FAT formatted. It plays files from a usb key without problem, too.

I bought the DVD player yesterday:
It plays DVDs fine but is a bit dodgy with divx. Once it starts playing the file its fine, but often it gives errors when i try to play the files and it wont even start. Has anyone else experienced this?

If it's a 2.5" or 1.8" drive it will play fine without external power as the usb has a small amount of current able to drive these not so power hungry devices
