First Direct - PPI missold claim

Hi.
I haven't found many mentions of First Direct in this forum. I don't know if that's simply because they're a super bank, (I certainly never had any complaints until it was brought to my attention that I was possibly missold the PPI on my personal loans), or if most people don't feel they've been missold by them.
It was Claims Advisory Group, who alerted me to the possibility, don't worry I'm not proceeding with them.
My claim is built around the fact that I did not actually need PPI, since I worked and still work for the NHS, naturally I'm somewhat covered by my employer on the things PPI is supposed to provide cover for.
I do not recall the salespeople (on the phone) telling me that I did not need it. As if they did, then I wouldn't have taken it.
Apart from that, if I'm honest the sale was probably fair, I wasn't forced into PPI, I wasn't told the loans hinged on it. I don't recall being informed I could buy it elsewhere, but in a nut shell I agree that I could have declined the PPI.
So a couple of weeks ago having shredded the un-completed Claims Advisory Group pack, re-shredded it, and then burnt it for good measure (38% + charge!!! No thanks.) I used the letter from this website as a template and posted it off to First Direct.
This morning I received acknowledgement of the complaint.
So far, no reason to complain about the procedure. I shall keep you posted on the developments as they come.
In the meantime, if anyone else has experience of claiming from First Direct please do share them

Got a "final response" predictably it's a no...with a predictably strong reasoning.
But I'm not satisfied that it was adequately explained to me that I did not need the PPI, so I am exercising my right to take it to the ombudsman.:www: Progress Report :www:

Thanks. I'm not overly confident now to be honest. On the face of it... signing away even though not fully understanding it is both stupid and not much of a case.
I'll at least try and get them to cancel the policy though.:www: Progress Report :www:

Jim
Did they give findings to ALL your reasons you given them?
If not if you want to, and they have not let them know.
We received a final in fact the only response from another bank and they did not look into all the reasons we gave, they then accepted taking another look and have revised a further offer, although I only given them 14 days to do this to know whether to move on to the FOS or accept their first offer, but do check to make sure they have given a finding on all your reasons.
Good luck with this.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"

Given how I only gave one reason, the only one that I felt was applicable I have to say they did.
But I filled out the ombudsman form and posted it off along with a few copies of relevant documents within an hour of receiving the letter. I guess that might take six months or so, but we'll see what becomes of it.
In the meantime, to try and save a few pennies a month I'm going to try to get them to cancel the policy.:www: Progress Report :www:

That is fine Jim, wishing you luck with this.
And only to suggest as well, if your in any hardship, you could let the FOS know and request if they will fast track, however I am aware there is also a queing system for this as well but it may still help, especially if this applies to you, good luck.;)The one and only "Dizzy Di"
