get some frontline from your vet and i think you can buy it online as well a lot cheaper than at the vets. You apply the drop on liquid onto the neck of the cat each month. If you keep up to date every month with the applications then you wont have a flea problem

would it help keeping a cat indoors?

IMO unless there is a very good reason for keeping a cat indoors eg..because of a health issue/deafness/blindness etc it is cruel as cats are outdoor animals. They need to express their natural behaviour and they cant do that shut up indoors. Keeping a cat indoors just because you dont want fleas is IMO not good. If you have animals then you have to buy the necessary products to keep fleas in check and the good effective ones are not cheap.
Flea prevention is an essential part of a cats requirements.

• Indorex is fab, my chemist does it for £9.99 and I really can't believe how well it works compared to shop bought brands. You get quite a big can for the money as well, but remember to de-flea the cats too with Frontline or Frontline Combo
£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86
£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29

is it true that if they have fleas they are more than likely got worms ?

Yep, afraid so. Worming cats/dogs doesn't prevent worms but can kill any they might already have. Kittens need a regular worming schedule as they grow up, check with your vet how often he/she advises.

WHERE DO THEY COME FROM? There is no other way for a pet to get tapeworms except from fleas.
Many people who had thought their pet could not possibly have fleas find out about the infestation this way. The tapeworm segment breaks open releasing its eggs. A larval flea consumes the egg along with the flea dirt that it normally eats. As the larval flea matures, so does the baby tapeworm. When a grooming dog or cat licks the flea and swallows it, the dead flea is digested in the dog’s stomach releasing the baby tapeworm. The tapeworm is passed to its new home in the dog or cat’s small intestine where it attaches and lives its life.

Fleas are easy to treat - ask your vet for advice as there are many good products these days

It's not cruel to keep an indoor cat. You can let him/her have some garden time by making a cat run or having the kitten on a harness and long lead. Mine will be an indoor cat because he's a pedigree and I want him to be safe, he will have the run of the garden because i'm having a cat house built for him. Cats live quiet happily indoors if you have plenty of cat trees and they get plenty of exercise.

You also need to frontling an indoor cat because people could bring animals fleas into the house.

If you have frontlined a cat and treat them each month then you won't get fleas in the house.

Don't buy fleas treatment from the vets or chemist though, buy online, much cheaper from Vetuk or Petmeds

I agree with this. In general they are much closer to the 'type' of their wild ancestors than dogs, since they've been domesticated for a shorter period of time. They need to be able to spend a significant amount of time outdoors in order to remain properly stimulated and, as said above, to express natural behaviors like hunting and territory-patrolling.

I wish people would catch on to the fact that what is sold by the supermarkets is a false economy and in some cases dangerous:confused:

Most vets will not want to see your pet for flea or worming treatment if your pet is registered with them and has been seen in the past year(even for yearly inoculations) so you shouldnt be charged a consult fee, most will leave a script on reception to be picked up. My vet allows us to pop in whenever for "repeat" treatments for things like fleas and worms so its just as cheap as ordering of the net and a lot more convenient.
