  • husband isn't keen on the caravan-he thinks it's in the middle of nowhere.
  • I'm still searching. Someone husband knows suggested Falkirk or Hamilton as a base - the thing is even if we did have either of these as a base it has to be near public transport.

 don't know what to do.

Should I leave it a few weeks/months and try again or do you think the caravans would have sold out by then?
  • You'll be fine, that's the week after October hols up here. If I were you I would decide what you want to see, research that side of things, and book your accomodation from there. What kind of hobbies do you have? What do the kids like to do (ages?) What do you do as a family at the weekend? Where would you normally go on holiday and what would you do there? Give us some clues, or go over to the Scotland board and start a thread there asking for family days out ideas in West / Central Scotland. There is loads to do us here, some of it free, and will kep you occupied easily for a week - even if the OH is used to being in London!!

Hiya, I went to the Wemyss Bay caravan site 2 yrs ago and we had a great time (I am not a caravan holiday type person at all and hate Pontins/Haven etc type holidays). I agree to get a caravan with double glazing but we booked the cheapest and as the park was quiet and it was our first visit we got an upgrade (and that was in August but out of Scottish school hols). The train station is literally at the bottom of the hill but kinda agree with ur DH - it is in the middle of nowwhere and was ok for us as kids were only toddlers and just wanted to got to the nearest beaches.

Have you thought about b and b's? We stayed in one for 2 night and had 2 rooms next to each other (MIL was with us) and it wasn't much more than a family room in the travellodge). Or maybe renting an apartment? http://www.scottishaccommodationindex.com/glasgowthirdpage.php
  • Have looked at all the cottages/b+bs etc and they are coming out as around £90 minimum a night which works out at nearly £700 for the week.

Other places I have found are just out of reach travel wise - they say they are in certain places but when you investigate they are 2 miles away from train station.

Things we like to do - we go to a lot of music gigs, kids are always on the internet, husband always on his xbox360

We are happy to go on trains/buses to quaint places - like old cafes/old buildings (does that sound strange lol).

If we could find somewhere where we could go for an evening with live music that allows children - that sounds just like the Wymuss - but I'm worried that it won't be our kind of thing (the series Benidorm springs to mind - sticky Vicky and the Tom Jones tribute act):rotfl:

The one that will be ideal for us is £475 - bit more than I wanted to pay - and 1 of the reviews says the tv reception was awful - might not mean much to anyone else but if the footies is on or any other programmes the kids want to watch they will be moaning.
  • Did you try the SHYA? They do family rooms, and the glasgow one is really nice and in a great location. They also have one in Edinburgh, in fact, I think two!
