so you will ONLY have £965 a month to live off.
That is MORE than enough for 2 adults. Its certainly more than a couple with no children would get in benefits.
Perhaps you need to look at your outgoings and cut them back in line with your income. Cancelling things like mobile phone contracts, sky, internet etc will certainy help.
  • unfortunately 627 of that is child maintanence and mortgage ,never mind all the other essential bills .

It would help if you calmed down and explained things more clearly. Have you considered applying to your university's hardship fund? Do you have no 'rainy day' savings at all - you need three months of mortgage payments before SMI kicks in? Do you have anything you could sell, a car perhaps as your OH cannot drive for six months? What do you class as essential bills, what can you cancel? Can you take in a lodger temporarily - up to around £4K per year tax free income?

Complete one of these and post on the Debt-free Wannabe board for comments:

IIRC the debt charities say that priority outgoings are rent/ mortgage, council tax and food - all other creditors can be offered £1 token payments along with a letter explaining your change in circumstances. There are templates on the DFW board in order to do this 'by the book'.

    and
basically if we were jobless and junkies wed be ok
    and
    ,im totally disgusted with this
    etc etc

lets look at a few things

Don't forget the 200 pounds per month for groceries for two people!

OP,on another thread you say that both you and your partner will be graduating from university this summer. You don't seem to have included his student finance in your calculations;is there a reason for this and why are you paying council tax if you both are students?
  • quite clearly i will not still be spending that type of money on things as of next month ,i assumed thats a given .

we spend money on a few treats because we work hard for our money ,i hardly think my spending is excessive

And yes im disgusted we pay our taxes like everyone else ,yet when it comes to a time when one of us is having emergency surgery and wages cut buy over £1000 we get no kind of help at all ,yet when i graduate ill be pumping even more money into the system and getting nothing in return.

i feel i have a right to be upset ,we are not on the poverty line ,but a very large % of those on benefits are screwing the system and we all know it ,i have no problem with ppl who need genuine help and need to be on benefits. My partners ex being a prime example ,a women who has 4 kids by 4 different dads doesnt pay a penny for anything ,when there are ppl out there working hard just to get by.

i just feel that there should be some sort of safety net for those not earning a huge wage and face situations like this

Foot problems run in my family, many have had repeated surgery and from your (brief) description theres nothing emergency about his surgery, has he got a fresh injury that needs emergency surgery?

so a large percentage of claimants are screwing the system? can you back this up with facts?
you fell you have the right to be upset but admit your not on the poverty line.
There IS a saftey net for those not earning a huge wage, your allready better off than the people the "net" is designed to help.

How much are the operations going to cost the NHS as well as 6 months of SSP?

Dont expect transport to or from the hospital tho as you think they are scroungers too.

Oh nad lastly, i hope hes not in your care while in hospital as like you said you dont care about the patients either.

Hi PaisleyPPL, I appreciate that you are upset and angry because of the situation you find yourself in. I lost my job a few years ago due to ill health, I don't have a husband or partner (I live alone) however, I was receiving Incapacity Benefit at the time. I was not eligible for mortgage interest help for 39 weeks (I think) and found it hard to cope. I had to look hard at my outgoings and despite thinking that I wasn't spending money on luxuries (things I now look upon as luxuries!) I did have to budget hard. I have since been awarded DLA but I still budget.

You say a high % are screwing the benefit system - I agree there are some but not a large %. The point is, you have to look at what you are entitled, but if you aren't entitled to anything I'm afraid you have to forget those treats for now.
we spend money on a few treats because we work hard for our money ,i hardly think my spending is excessive
Vader pointed out something, I don't know if this is correct:

In your position the mobile phones are a luxury - get pay as you go and only use for emergencies. If you don't want to be without sky cut the package you are on, or if you can go for free sky for the moment.

Oldernotwiser says that you spend £200 on groceries for 2 - this is excessive, you could easily cut £50 off that and more.

Sorry, I'm not having a go nor are the others here, we are trying to help, but it's nothing you want to hear because you are angry.

I don't know whether you could claim DLA, I think you have to have a problem for at least 3 months and expect to have problems for further 6 months. It's worth asking or perhaps someone here could advise.

Hope things work out for you.:)
