Identified a couple of more books for the charity shop (so I now have space for a few more :p). I've also finished Richard Dawkins' Greatest Show on Earth - interesting, easy to read but he is very self congratulatory, think he managed to mention every other book he has written, and he super atheism did grate slightly.

Now reading Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
  • I never like the look of Richard Dawkins I have to say! LEt me know how you get on with Guernsey... it's on my to read (soon) list!

I must confess I bought "The Importance of Being Seven" the latest in the Scotland Street series by Alexander McCall Smith. I adore his writing and have read more or all of his books. I have a ticket to hear him speak at the Edinburgh Book Festival on the 27th and I'm really looking forward to that. I'm spending the day there as his slot is at 1.00. What are the chances of me coming away from that without buying anything?:rotfl:

If you can get it autographed, I'd forgive you! :A

Pickle - I'll do my best! Am I the only one who can feel in awe of writers? I'm as excited about going to see him as I would be going to a concert!;) I was just the same a few years ago when I went to a talk given by Bill Bryson and another by Maya Angelou ( not at the same time)

Have read Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, thoroughly enjoyed it! Hope you do too!

Nearly finished "I am Spock" by Leonard Nimoy. Getting a bit fed up with (auto)biographies now as I haven't read a good one for ages. Still reading Meltdown by Ben Elton, which is excellent.

Is it cheating to exchange a couple of books of which I have two copies for one I haven't read ? Went to a local cafe at a centre for people with learning difficulties the other day and they have a book swap section. There was a hardback copy of James patterson's 5th Horseman. Hope it's still there when I go back.

Nope! But it's one of those cases of will they live up to your expectations in real life? I've met two of my favourite writers, one who was pretty cool, and the other, I don't think I would get on with very well if we were to meet under other circumstances. But that's the way it goes goes and I still love both of their books!

I has a little look on my library site the other day and it resulted in my ordering 'Tickling the English' by Dara O'Briain, 'Fry's English Delight' by Stephen Fry and 'Making History' by the same man. Guess what I'll be up to this next while?

May I join this one?? :) I currently have around 600 books but I must confess that at the very most there are only about 3 I have not read (which were given to me). They are all old friends and I have read a lot of them at least twice, and a lot of them many more times. :T

There are a few I could give up I think, but I am like a previous poster here - I go through phases of reading different authors so I'd hate to give away, for instance, all my Stephen King books, only to go and buy them all again in 6 months.... :)

I also buy as many books as possible 2nd hand, so through eBay or Amazon where it doesn't cost very much. Been good lately, and not bought anything - the last "brand new" book I had was actually a Xmas present.

    Welcome! :) And that's a lot of books. :):)

(I'm about halfway through 'Tickling the English', despite not being supposed to start it until I've got other important stuff I needed to get done, done. :o
