Currently reading Victoria Hislop's The Island which is wonderful, I loved The Return and this is looking like being even better -

I have The Return to read and as we are on holiday in our caravan, and the weather forecast isn't good, it will probably be read this week :o

Am also reading one of the Chicken Soup books, I love them.

Ooh let us know what you think of The Return :)

Have put The Island aside for now as The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner has arrived - it's ok but nowhere near as good as the actual Twilight books, I think because there's none of the Edward & Bella beauty.

Have you read The Return Katy? x

Not yet, but I *think* it's in the wobbling 'to read' tower... I've read some dooyoo reviews on it and it looks an OK read.

Hi everyone I'd like to join too please! Recently moved house so was a good girl and got rid of LOADS of books to those nice charity shops that take them all off your hands for nothing!! I can't resist buying new books, it's one thing I love and I can't walk past a bookshop unless I make a conscious effort not to look at its door. I don't actually have that many books on my shelves but I don't have the space to buy too many more. Currently have 8 in the 'to read' pile. Two I've borrowed from a friend who I specifically told I didn't want them yet, but in her hand they looked so enticing lol.

Anyway, am currently re-reading one thats been on my shelf for 10 years (seriously? I read it once that long ago and since its just sat there untouched? time flies) Its good though and am glad Ive picked it up again as don't often re-read things. I do have another on order from Amazon  but will try not to buy another until I've read one. Read one, buy one. Does that count?

Ooh I forgot all about this thread!

I have recently read Notes From a Scandal which I enjoyed, got half way through Night Train to Lisbon by Pascal Mercier but got really bored so gave up and One Day by David Nicholls which was good. Also started Homage to a Firing Squad by Tariq Goddard but can't really get into it, will persevere with it as my bed time book though.

Now reading Random Acts of Heroic Love by Danny Scheinmann which I'm enjoying so far but am just at the start.

I have about 20 books in my unread pile - at the moment I am halfway through Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult and I have to say I'm not enjoying it quite as much as I have done her other books, but sticking with it and hoping it will still grab me at some point.

Observer, you beat me to it...I was just thinking how I hadn't been back here for ages.

I am currently about two-thirds of the way through Richard Branson's autobiography 'Losing My Virginity' (har, har!), which I bought for 20p at a charity garden party. It's pretty good as he has had an interesting life, but overall I have been slacking at the reading and am slightly behind on my '2 books a month' target for this year.

I still can't find The Count of Monte Cristo. I have no idea where he has beggared off to, but he really has done a runner! :rotfl:

I enjoyed both One Day by David Nicholls and Random Acts of Heroic Love by Danny Scheinmann is a lovely book but takes a wee bit of getting into.
Interesting to hear your view re Night Train to Lisbon - I've picked this up several times but something always puts me off it!

does anyone remember 'Forever Amber' not sure of the author, but set in the past at the time of the Restoration, if I remember correctly. I had this and loved it and it disappeared somewhere, off to look for a copy......
